He has earned his chance. The media seem to be sharpening their knives already, even before a training session has been called, let alone a ball kicked. He faces a pretty tough task, after all, this isn't the best crop, it kinda feels like we are at a transitional stage. Many players will fall by the road side after the Euro's, lets hope they give the new gaffer 100%. Good luck Roy.
Yeah, can sense that feeling I get every couple of years when the England team come around. Hope he picks players who deserve a chance, losing would be easier to take if the players have worked hard. We'll see I suppose.
We have no chance of winning so this is a perfect opportunity to look to the future. Time to move away from the discredited 'golden generation'. I expect to see some big omissions next week.
I hate to say it, but he should pick as many Chelsea players as possible. They won the Champions League, their confidence is sky high, especially for Cup games.
Liverpool made 2 cup finals and won 1. And City won the Premier League for the first time in a generation. So... anyone except Manchester United players
Build the team around Chelsea and Man Utd players. Chelsea defence and Richards Man Utd midfield, with A. Johnson and Lampard Man Utd strikers ****ing sorted
I am dismayed by the inclusion of so many Liverpool players actually. They have been terrible this season, whereas Chelsea were competing with Arsenal and Spurs the whole way. The fact they won the CL will make Chelsea's players think they are the best in the world. That's the confidence we need in the Euros. I agree with having a United strike-force. Have Ashley Young, Rooney and Wellbeck up front. They know eachother so they're the best chance of a successful strike-force with what we've got. I would actually play Carroll when Rooney is not there though. He would be suitable for the rough group games, especially with Young & Wellbeck being lightweights. Glen Johnson and Downing shouldn't even be in the squad though. Unfortunately he made Gerrard captain too, so he'll be in the middle rather than Lampard, which is ridiculous considering their form, and the trophies Lampard has won.
People have short memories, we've been banging on for years about how crap Lampard is for England. No wonder England managers are confused.
