Madness to have sold him last season. City kept on to people like Kiss and Nugent and loaned them out rather than do the same with Gestade.

He was always a bit ungainly but came up with some goals and always worked himself into the ground and age 100% plus was always going to be a threat and going to get better.

Hope he does well but so frustrating City got rid of him having brought him into English football.

What's daft is that the only time he played top class opponents for us (Liverpool cup final) he gave Skrtel an absolutely torrid time. How he didn't get any chance at PL level is mystery to me.

I agree with the good wishes, good luck to the guy hope he does well for Palace if he gets the move <ok>

Please, someone tell me we had a sell on clause.

Definitely not given enough opportunity with us once his physical issues were sorted out. Didn't he have loads of one to one time with Darren Campbell to change his running style?

For me he is now better than Jones and Macheda combined. Jury out on Ravell but has had an encouraging start.

To be fair, it wasn't that obvious at the time. Gestede often looked amateurish, and Helguson was preferred during our promotion season.

Malky didn't fancy him for the Prem and sent him out on loan to Blackburn, but if Cornelius was worth £8M...........<laugh><laugh>

I'd certainly take him back right now, but as we stand, Revell or Jones played as a one up top, with the other on the bench waiting to get on would be the way to go.

ALF also on the bench to change shape if he's needed - Macheda on his bike because he's not needed.

I'd rather keep Macheda than Alf. He has a much better record when he's in the side. In fairness everyone in the squad has a better record than Alf when they're in the side.

You may have noticed I'm now firmly in the 'Alf's the worst thing to ever happen, ever' camp with Nin.... <laugh> <laugh>

I'd prefer Kimbo to Macheda even though he falls over a lot.........<laugh><laugh>

Must say ALF is stretching my faith, but as far as Macheda is concerned, I'm an atheist.

CCFC v Forest April 2013...IMHO Gestede put in one of the best performances by a City striker since the Chopra/Bothroyd days.

The guys' a legend & one of Malky's rare (oops) errors was not realising his potential.

Having a good game hardly qualifies him as a legend whiffle - he was pants far more times than he was good when I watched him.

Limited chances admittedly with Helguson taken on board for that season, but he tall too often failed to make a significant impact when given the opportunity for all his physical presence. In fact, Helguson (who I didn't rate at the time) was more effective at the sharp end.

Talking of his potential then is another thing. Another one of Malky's rare (oops) errors was thinking Corny had 8 million pounds worth of it......<laugh>

Maybe 'Legend' is a bit strong, but I loved the guys' attitude & effort......if he had been given a decent run in the team (see ALF, Kenny Miller etc), then I'm sure there would have no need to spend on Cornelius.

I must say that Gestede in his attitude whilst with us always looked the perfect club player. Polite, respectful and prepared to learn from his peers. He did seem to have an awful lot to learn though, and as often said, hindsight is a wonderful thing. True to say he's repaid Blackburn for their faith in him.

Without harping back to the Cornelius thing again, getting rid of Gestede could have been as big a mistake as signing Corny. I doubt there's a football manager out there who hasn't made a mistake about a player, but those are two glaring ones for a start.

MM is being made to look like Fergie in comparison to the clowns we've employed since. In truth he just knows how to set up a side to play a system, that puts him head and shoulders above Slade and Ole but is not remarkable in terms of managers available.

The mistake you are highlighting is worth approx. £12-14m loss. £8m wasted followed by a £4m+ player given away. I don't know if Gestede was a glaring mistake for the reasons you state above but it's compounded what was already an expensive one.

Compared to the clowns we've employed since, even Durban would have looked good.

Malky as a manager at this level was far superior to these last two, each of whom operate totally different approaches, but are equally as bad as one another.

I've actually wondered on times recently where we would have been right now in the table if Solskjaer had been kept. Easy enough to say we'd probably be in a relegation spot by now, but I'm not so sure.

What I am sure about is that we're heading that way under Slade.

I've been wondering for a few weeks if we'd be this bad under Ole. Great minds....<laugh>

Agreed Jay but that's history and we can't change it. Take the positive now, if we had a sell on clause, say 20%, that would bring us in £1.2m if Blackburn get £6m. In fact that could be why they are holding out for that figure and not taking a lower one.

I see the Jacks are looking at Jordan Rhodes. He must be worth £8/10m but that would see Rovers selling their best strikers for up to £16m then leaving no proven scorers. How must their fans feel.......again.
