This means he will miss Arsenal's match against Man Utd. A ban for Song to follow? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14549121.stm
good, he rightly deserves it, just cause you play for a londond team doesnt mean you should keep getting away with violent offences
Why wasn't he given an extra match suspension for a frivolous appeal? How can anyone claim that he shouldn't have been sent off (he slapped someone, doesn't matter if he was provoked or the reaction of the slapee) is beyond me.
has the appeal been turned down ???? if so united were told it is an automatic extra game??? I knew this would happen when a london team appealed
I just read that they were appealing not against the violent act commited but that the ban was excessive, why is it excessive its a set 3 match ban lol
You don't automatically get banned for an extra game if your appeal is turned down, only if the appeal is 'frivolous', i.e. an absolutely clear situation with zero grounds for an appeal. I think the fact that Gervinho was attacked first by the violent thug that is Barton who then went on to produce the worst piece of play-acting since Rivaldo in 2002 is a mitigating circumstance. It's still a red and thus a ban though, a laughable girly slap but rules say you can't raise your hands on someone's face. I just think that if Gervinho was going to get himself sent off then he might as well have smacked the c*nt properly, he'd deserve every bit of it
im glad he was sent off, correct decision, bartons was not a hit and not deemed violent. Which personally i dont think it was but was a little ott, ref did a good job of it all
funny how united did though and sunderland last year when they appealed over the excessiveness of a ban, strange
Yeah but that's because the FA favour us. That might not make sense to you but it does to a bitter ABU.
Yeah it was a blatant dive but did Barton have a right to do what he did? It's not like he's helping him up the way a normal person helps another to get up, then he's grabbing his throat, picking a fight like the dirty scouse thug he is. And considering what Barton is like I'd say anyone has a right to slap him. What about Barton's awful play-acting, going down like he's been shot for a slap that barely hit him? That was worse than Gervinho's dive plus incredibly hypocritical after what he'd done seconds before.
How is that not frivolous then? Was it Rio on Caleb Folan when he had an extra game added on his 3 match ban? I don't see how anyone can defend Gervinho's actions. It was clearly violent conduct. What Barton did r.e. dragging Gervinho up is probably no worse than the "macho" chest bumps that happen when two people square up and that almost always ends up in yellow cards. There has been no precedent of a referee giving someone a yellow card for overacting a foul, so the yellow that Barton got was surely the right decision.
And after Udinese beat Arsenal tonight there season is already over, Fab gone, Sammy due to go ****ty-City and now there new signing gets a 3 match ban haha lol.....
I can't remember how the Rio incident with Folan went. Just correcting the erroneous belief that a failed appeal automatically gets the extra ban. Defending him is pretty easy: he was provoked by the thug that is Barton. Might want to look at the incident again, Barton is all over him after he's dragged him up. That's a considerable mitigating circumstance. It's a red card and Gervinho still shouldn't have done it (or if he did might as well have actually hit him) but makes is more defendable. There's a pretty big difference between slapping someone for no reason, and slapping someone (who actually should be behind bars for his own history of violence) who has provoked you and is grabbing your throat. Can't fault the referee's decision but that's no excuse for Barton is it? Doing such disgusting play-acting seconds after you've picked a fight with another player because he dived is hypocritical to the extreme
Everything you've said is correct, the ref did get it right to send Gervinho off and yellow card Barton but Barton was still being a hypocritical scumbag in the was he got himself involved. As for the Rio and Folan incident, that goes down to how the FA are applying the rules fairly or unfairly but the rules don't dictate than an extra game ban is automatically given if an appeal fails.
Personally mate, I love Joey Barton. He's the only footballer who doesn't have his head in the clouds AND he's a quality player. BUT I agree, he should not have picked Gervinho up, all I'm saying is I understand why he did it, diving pisses everyone off. After being slapped in the face (no matter how lightly) all Joey could do was go down, he can't react to that in any other way because what Gervinho did was wrong and deserved to go off. I'm guessing Barton thought 'well he dived now I'm going to'
What exactly does that mean? If not having your head in the clouds mean you've guilty of criminal acts for which you've served a far too short prison sentence, are involved in controversies every week, again transfer-listed by your club etc. then I very much prefer players who have their head in the clouds thank you. Really fail to see what there is to love in him. Um what? If someone slaps me in the face so that I can barely feel it I certainly won't go down clutching my face pretending to be hurt. What he did was disgusting play-acting and as bad if not worse than Gervinho's dive because he was trying to get another player sent off. Two wrongs don't make a right. Then he has the nerve to criticise Gervinho for "seeking to gain an unfair advantage". So all of a sudden diving doesn't piss everyone off anymore?
To be fair, Barton is hardly the only player to go down like a sack of spuds in a situation like that. The only player I've seen who didn't go down when he got slapped was Vidic, and if he hadn't been restrained by Terry and Carrick he'd probably have been sent off for decking Drogba. And Barton did get a yellow card for the incident, which may well have been for simulation. Tho' Barton is still a bit of a **** imo, and definitely has his head in the clouds as shown by his "I'm the best midfielder in England" comment. If you want a player with their feet on the ground, look no farther than Scholes.
