How many of my fellow Not 606 ers are going to the great mans long overdue testimonial tomorrow ? It should be a fitting occasion to honour a real legend.

It's heartening to see the likes of Jackie and Super Bob making appearances, and another of my heroes Mike 'Gibbo' Gibson but there is a worrying lack of players from Gerrys era such as Cashley, Sweeney, Drysdale, Merrick, Whitehead, Ritchie, Tainton and co ? I used to regularly see Brian Drysdale pounding the roads of South Bristol until recently so where are his team mates ???

Thats exactly what I was thinking.

They would never have played at the top level without Gerry

    Quite....

I appreciate that Tainton, Merrick, and Sweeney were 3 of the Ashton Gate 8 but that wasn't Gow's fault. He was sold to try and balance the books, but I'm still somewhat disappointed that virtually no-one from the promotion winning team will be there to honour him, not even the out of towners like Hunter, Cooper, Mann, Royle, Cormack etc

I shall be there, even paid for my draw ticket to be manager for the day cost more than entrance fee and raises more money, only 8 entered though.

Looking forward to seeing all the legends, Super Bob even sent my son a christening card from him and his wife after just one conversation with him.

"Gerry Gow isn’t like City’s other former players.

He isn’t an ambassador for the club or employed as a television pundit.

He doesn’t write a column in the programme or make appearances at supporters clubs.

Instead Gow, who made more than 500 league appearances and played in the 1981 FA Cup final against Tottenham, stacks shelves at his local Tesco in Dorset to make ends meet." (Manchester Evening News, May 21st 2012)

Lots of players get called 'Legends', then there's Gerry Gow! In his day, he was here, there and every ... (well, you know the rest!). On Saturday, he'll be at Ashton Gate for a long overdue testimonial. Hopefully you will too.

In this era of footballers earning tens of thousands of pounds a week and having no need for a 'retirement fund' from a testimonial, this is one occasion when such a game could not be more deserved.

Gerry (for those too young to have seen him play: a tough-tackling Glaswegian midfielder) made 445 appearances for City between 1969 and 1981 before being transferred to Manchester City, in an attempt to balance the books. As a result, despite his lengthy service, he was never given a testimonial. Until now.

Few players merit your support more than Gerry Gow. Please try to get to his game, Saturday at 3pm. Tickets are just £8 (£4 for concessions). You can pay on the day, over the phone on 0117 963 0600, online or at the City shop.

Even if you can't get to the game, why not show your support for Gerry by buying a ticket anyway, here online?

    See you on Saturday!

Bristol City Supporters' Club & Trust

PS: Players set to turn out for the two sides are:

City XI squad: Mike Gibson, David Mogg, Adam Locke, Chris Honor, Darren Barnard, Gerry Sweeney, Paul Stephens, Rob Newman, Gary Owers, Brian Tinnion, Alex Russell, Jon Economou, Wayne Bray, Junior Bent, Bob Taylor, Shaun Goater, Jacki Dziekanowski, Tony Thorpe, Lee Matthews, Colin Cramb,

Man City XI squad: Andy Dibble, Eric Nixon, Alec Pickering, Gary Bennett, Dave Bennett, Asa Hartford, Peter Barnes, Peter Beagrie, Jeff Whitley, Paul Dickov, Shaun Goater, Fitzroy Simpson, Kevin Horlock.'

This is a copy of BCSC & T e-mailed out and it's wording says all...

I'm still recovering from an operation so will not be there (and will be touch and go for the first league game)
However, I hope the day goes well - he deserves it

Cant wait! Gerry Gow was before my time.. but will always have nothing but respect for the man. Helped save the club for fans from future generations.. Like me!!

Without the Ashton 8, my Dad may have started taking me to gas games <yikes>

Wouldnt miss the chance to see some of my boyhood heroes again. Jacki will always be one the most memorable for me. Tinman is playing too!... and Junior Bent ;)

P.S. What's Wayne Allison doing these days?

Big names but not in Gerry class for Bristol City FC,None of those can even compete with what Gerry Gow was to BCFC.

Will be there tomorrow for the legend "A true Legend" paying on the day.
