Bit of a random post, but was trawling youtube and found this video. Dont know if its been posted before, but definately worth a watch......I could never get bored of watching this video.
Awesome! You can see how class a player he is, plus the progression of our team. Feels like forwarding through time...
What. A. Player. I will never tire of watching that boy's goals. Immense - adjectives fail me. Was that a 15 min video? Certainly didn't feel like it. Let's hope he can add another 5 minutes to it before he retires. Surprised how few penalties there were (25?), but in no way surprised how few tap-ins there were. Does the guy ever score sh*t goals? One of my all time favourite players. There's only one Stevie G: Huyton hero, Liverpool legend!
The goals against Boro where he chested it down and then hit a dipping volley into the top corner from the edge of the box. Awesome. Just a shame we haven't been able to put together a team were we weren't always so reliant on him, then we really may have won the title.
He used to be but never seems to take the chances any more, and when he does he always seems to pull them
There was a free kick Stevie took (can't remember who against) and he curled it into the top right hand corner of the goal. Watched the video twice and still haven't seen it. Missing? Edit: It sticks in the mind as he usually blasts it, but he delicately placed this one - it's a wonderful free-kick!
That's it! Thought you guys (Lucas / Biscan) were right as soon as you suggested Villa, double checked on Youtube and it is. Am I correct in saying that that one isn't in the compilation, or have I missed it?
Cheers Lucas (and Biscan), you are right. 8.12. The angle doesn't do the goal justice, as is the case for most of these goals - an embarrassment of riches! Personally, I loved the Middlesborough goal, the last one in the FA cup, the Olympiakos goal, and there are about another 8 which are especially poignant to me, also (not listing them all though).
It breaks my heart that his international record was blighted by poor management. One in the eye for the critics who claim England can't produce skillful players.
Yep, have to agree. Both he and Scholes were consistently played out of position, to enable Lampard to play. I thought when Scholes and Gerrard played brilliantly in our 5-1 win over the Germans it was going to be the start of a wonderful period for England. Unfortunately, England managers never used Lampard as a straight swap for Gerrard (when Gerrard was injured / rested). Oh, what could have been...
McLaren did, eventually. That's when results turned around and we got to a point wher we looked like qualifying for the Euros again. And that was with the Gerrard/Barry partnership, which is when Rafa got interested in Barry, surprisingly enough. Not that anybody noticed. Mclaren's failure was returning Lampard for the Croatia match. England were also better with Lampard and Barry when Gerrard was injured. Nothing wrong with Lampard and his own career's been blighted, too, by the determination to squeeze the 11 best players into a formation. And it went on for years.
Agreed. We tried to play the best players, not the best team. A lesson which always needs to be remembered. I always thought Barry and Gerrard would have made a very good midfield pairing for us. I know Rafa tried to make that happen, but he still should have got more for Alonso. 15 million seems like a joke when you think what some players have gone for these days. Oh well. Sign of the times, perhaps.
The, "Oh well, sign of the times" comment seemed to suggest was refering to the fact Alonso was sold for £16mil but ok fair enough. I think in 2008 Alonso was only worth that, have to remember he came off the back of 2 average seasons and his best season was 2009 at which point his value increased.
