Rafa Benitez has accused Steven Gerrard of lying about their relationship in order to sell his new book.
The former Liverpool and England captain claimed that although he and Benitez worked well together, the Spaniard never liked him "as a person".
"I don't think Rafa Benitez liked me as a person. I'm not sure why, but that's the feeling I got from him," wrote Gerrard in his new book, My Story, serialised in the Daily Mail.
But the Real Madrid manager has hit back at the 35-year-old, insisting the claims are just a publicity stunt.

"I have read the quotes and I believe he is wrong," Benitez said on Spanish television.
"Out of the respect that I have for Stevie and for the value and appreciation I have for him, and for Liverpool and the supporters, I think it's best to just let it pass.
"He has brought out a book and now I'm the Real Madrid manager, that sells."
Gerrard also labelled his old manager "stupid" for selling midfielder Xabi Alonso and said he was "embarrassed" by his 'facts' rant, but Benitez chose not to respond to those comments.

    Well done Rafa.

This has all been really stupid, Gerrard has been chipping in with comments since he left and as much as I love the fella it's time to shut up.

The Pandas bit is there because I like Pandas.

Yeah but as if he needs a few quid from a book sale!

I understand that he has probably been holding a lot of stuff in over the years and reading **** about himself and others every day and thinking "that's not right".

Likely to have a huge urge to tell your story once you've left but it is a bit rich to be saying this is 'not the Liverpool way' with Rafa's rant etc as he plasters all this to the public.

Yeah, he knows his rep is kinda bulletproof and is taking full advantage, and you're spot on about his hypocrisy.
Now if he'd have laid into Fergie about his manipulating refs and tapping players up that would have been more acceptable.<whistle>

IMO footy books are ****, I've never read a good one. I'd like to see someone actually write one that depicts the joy and romantisicm of football instead of the incessant moaning that comes with every book or the good old days of getting smashed the night before playing.

  7. I don't think things that happened in the past are an issue, it shouldn't be talking about the present (texting players for Brod) though.

Think it says a lot about Gerrard. He rather have someone massage his ego and be his friend ie Woy or Rodgers than have someone actually try to improve him and ultimately manage him.

I never read footballer's books. I have little interest in what they do off the pitch, and no interest at all in gratuitous muck-raking.
However, he's got a book- and I'm assuming some rag or other is serialising it- therefore there's going to be a constant stream of snippets coming out for a while attempting to milk it for all it's worth.
So he's not really going on about it as such, it's just that were getting fed with it a bit at a time to maximise its impact. It'll go on for as long as people like reading about other people slagging each other off.

Pandas have the same colour scheme as<badger><badger>

  16. If Stevie hadn't agreed to that, all the rags would have done it once the book was released anyway.

I used to read these books but not looked at one for at least four years now.

Chances are high that a book about pandas would be more likely to be written by a panda than a book about Gerrard is written by the man himself

Left Foot forward by Garry Nelson is a decent read - basically the story of a journeyman player.
The bio of Steve Claridge is a laugh but yeah avoid all books by big names

Sinilar here. I think he's still a bit close to home given he's only just left and is talking about players, people who are still close to the club.
