Ex Town manager George Burley reckons we stand a very good chance of finishing in the Top 6 and emulating what he achieved in that glorious season of 99/00. George who now lives in Ipswich says that he goes to Portman Road quite a lot and says that we were better than Reading who currently lay in that 6th place! http://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/ipswich...as_a_sixth_sense_about_ipswich_town_1_3318333
Rose tinted spectacles maybe? I certainly agree that we can... and would obviously love it if we did but possibly the Ipswich fan in him speaking up
A lot depends on keeping everybody fit, Say for instance if Didsy,Skuse or Berra got injured for a few games i think we will be ****ed. I think out of all the sides apart from Brighton we are the most consistent side in the mix for sixth. COYB
If Didsy got crocked that would be that, as for the back four with the arrival of Razor we could cope with a single injury to Berra, Smith or Chambo if we got two long term it would be difficult. As for Skuse we now have Green & Hyam is about to come back so again cover, albeit I don't think Green is at the level of Skuse & Luke is also a bit behind Skuse in ability.!
Cant see it personally, i would say there are better teams than us in the mix but i guess you never know, think we will need a lot of luck!!!
No offence anyone but Burley knows more about football than you do......so I go along with what he says...
7 goals in 35 appearances not as bad as many would have you believe........but you might have made me think had you of said Ulrich Le Pen.
I remember his home debut,in which he was brilliant, and I thought at last we've bought a world class player-unfortunately we never saw that replicated in subsequent performances, not sure if that was down to poor motivation, being played out of position or what. What a move: www.youtube.com/watch?v=62yZi8wWXn8
Even IF we squeaked it into 6th, and even assuming we then made it upstairs (which, with this squad, I doubt, although we're close), we'd be fecked in the PL. Give it another year and all will be rosy...(crosses fingers, waits for critics)
That's the problem I think honestly I'd say we have an average to poor championship squad so if we get to the PL we'd need to significantly improve our squad but by the same token you don't want to do what alot of teams have done recently where they just rip up the team that got them promoted and chuck money at it, so I think at least another season of building a team will be good for us. I'd like to see us go up with a team which has the bit of quality where we'd only sign 2 or 3 players once in the PL abit like how we went up under Burley.
Spot on ptc with your post. Best scenario is going up and adding as little as possible. High amounts of signings doesn't work it just throws any continuity and team ethic out. So IMO lets keep pushing for 6th but realistically add another couple in the summer and take that extra step next season.
