george ferguson is the new major which from what he said before being voted major is not a good choice for city as he is against sainsbury buying ashton gate and us moving to a new stadium. Probably because he was not happy he wasnt chosen to design the new ground but the gas will be happy as is was one of a few in favour of the mem being bought by sainsbury. Maybe it is time for plan B is redeveloping Ashton Gate and give up on the fantasy of moving to another site
Major? He did say when he lost the argument about Sainsburys that he would accept the decision and move on, I hope he sticks by that statement..
They should of scrapped the mayor idea with only 30% of bristol voting. It means 70% of us don't want/give a **** about a mayor. Keep the majority happy!!
George Ferguson was opposed to a Hypermarket being built at Ashton Gate, indeed many people in BS3 were also including City fans, as a champion of local business v chains his view is rational, he has expressed no opposition to Ashton Vale, he has no history of designing football stadia ... Influence reagrding the Ashton Vale project will fall outside of the Mayors remit, Mr Ferguson has made reference to this. Having a BS3 based Mayor could be of benefit to the club if it moves, or stays resident at Ashton Gate as he will want to see transport links in the area improved e.g existing rail links in BS3. Anybody interested in sports should welcome his views on making Bristol a City of sport and making facilities more community inclusive.
Will be very interesting indeed regards his chair, from the past comments really do not see it being a blessing for city.
when you analyse it only only 1 in 4 people voted and of those 6 in every 10 didnt want him or around 88% of the voting potential didnt vote for him TALK ABOUT MINORITY
Cliftonville you seem very keen on Ferguson becoming Mayor. Any particular reason? Because all the reasons you keep putting for him to become Mayor don't seem to help us in any way with our quest to move to Ashton Vale? This appears to me a to be a man who will wear Red trousers at Ashton Gate, Blue ones at The Mem and Green ones with his cronies? Not my cup of tea thanks..
Big hats off to Bristol. Ashton Vale, no Mayor can help there, but you have to look at why Ferguson pissed it v the big party machines. People are sick to death of party politics where only three party politics matters not the voters. Bristol has a reputation as an an alternative city and here is an alternative vote. Ferguson has a cv of achievement in business over decades v a counciil that wastes ten of millions on feasibilty studies for arenas and half arsed transport schemes. Blue trousers - stadiums, so ****ing what? Start thinking about serious things like care homes etc. For decades we have had ****s who just follow the leed of their leaders at party HQ's. Red trousers can do no worse.
Cant he? less than 12% of the total vote, I'll think about what matters to me if thats alright with you. I'm not looking for 'alternative' I want change.. A clever opportunist thats what he is to me mate. Well see what you think in 4 years then.
An easy critique to make of the council is an inabilty to get projects started let alone off the ground. Areas of the City have been neglected, Stokes Croft for instance is down due to the Councils apathy. An easy opinion again is that Ferguson's energy and drive can empower communities. He has done much that is admirable. His cronies come from a wide spectrum, be they lefties of Stokes Croft, or free market Tories of the Merchant Venturers. No other candidate brought that level of expertise to the table.
Having a mayor who is not lablibcon is change as its them who have been damaging Bristol for years. Rees etc would have brought about the same old same old again??
We'll see wont we? My instinct is He will swim with all of them, which will equally get us all nowhere and never has! History is littered with 'all type appeasers' who ultimately fail everybody by trying to please everybody. Independent, no problem for me! I question that with Red Trousers though?
It will not make one iota of difference. Ferguson will end up banging his head against the wall in frustration because of the same reasons that have always afflicted the city, namely: 1, He will only control 66% of the actual city. The rest of Bristol is run by 'South Gloucestershire'. 2, Lack of Government funding because Bristol is not London or Oop North. 3, Incomers. Bristol is chock full of people who have escaped from London and don't want their provincial idyll ruined by anything that a big city might like, ie. decent sports stadia, an arena, reasonable public transport. Bloody nimbys.
