Sad news Geoff Thomas has passed away at the age of 64.One of my favourite Swansea players .Swans through and through -a dog of a player RIP Geoff! Jannah!
Sad news. Geoff was a player who could have done so much more given the right chance. I remember he had a hell of a shot on him. One stormy night at the Vetch with the rain lashing down, we were playing on an absolute quagmire of a pitch, the sort the youngsters of today would hardly believe you could play on. It really was a mud heap with pools of water and passing the ball along the floor was totally impossible - the ball just got stuck fast. Anyway, there was a loose ball that got buried in the mud and Geoff just ran onto it and hit it, probably in sheer frustration. From about 25 yards out, or more, the ball was blasted out of its muddy grave and hit the back of the net like a rocket. The keeper, who hadn't moved, was astonished and just stood there with his hands on his hips. The shot had been struck with such awesome power, it was almost unbelievable and that with the older, heavier type ball, not the mickey mouse thing they use today. Great memories. I'm trying to remember Geoff's nickname. Was it Janner or something like that? I guess one of you long time fans will know what it is. Anyway, Geoff, RIP, mate.
I remember Geoff, a key part of the midfield along with Willie Screen and sometimes Joey Slattery during the '69-70 promotion winning side of Roy Bentley. After the Swans, he and Herbie Williams played for Milford. Too bad to hear of his passing and at his age. He scored a cracking goal in the first few minutes against Colchester in the '69-70 season. As a bunch of school boys from Martin Street, we were given tickets to the top of the double decker and watched him volley it in from the edge of the box.
Not old enough to have seen him play, but some lovely memories from this forum's members paint a picture of a good man and a tidy player. RIP and my condolences to the family also.
