Apparently, our new chairman has given the go ahead for a geoff Bradford statue at the new stadium! http://www.gasheads.org/thread/4823/more-positive-news-chairman
I also wonder whether wael will still give the go ahead for the fans to buy a brick. The idea came up a while back for fans to have name plaques placed on a section of the uwe?
I dont want to think of negative things but if we do get a statue, I hope it doesnt get damaged or anything like that. Some twat vandalised the mem gates which is listed as a war memorial. If they (and when I say they, I mean the very very small 0.001% of Citys fanbase) can do that to a listed war memorial, I think they will see the statue as a target too.
Don't let idiots stop you doing something that's right The statue needs to be there - it's important for clubs to recognise their legends
The club looks like they will go ahead with it. I have no issues. But I just expect the worse to happen unfortunately!
Great idea for a statue of Geoff. If Darrell gets us into League 1 with a second consecutive promotion, then establishes us there and we start to challenge for promotion, then they'll be needing a plinth for him!
With regards to honouring past players/personnel that were of major influence to the history of the club, does anyone agree with me that Gerry Francis deserves some recognition? Those days at Twerton Park were a roller-coaster of ups and downs, and I'm sure I can recall that in our darkest time, Gerry put his own money into the club in some context as we were in dire straights at the time, and apart from the success he gave us on the pitch eventually, I think from memory that he was a major factor in us even surviving those early days. If not a statue, then some kind of plaque at the very least, to recognise what he did for us. What do you all think?
Genuine question, who was a real 100% "gashead" , Geoff Bradford or Gerry Francis...? One man stands out by far for me as a an old RED but I mean no disrespect, so it's your thoughts...
Yes thats a fair comment. With hindsight, its probably a shame he came back for that second spell. Didn't work out as well as his first one, and whereas he left as a bit of a hero after the first time with us, events tended to spoil the fond memories we had of him. Probably a case of things never working out so well, when you return to previous successes after a break away. Bit like life really - never go back 'cos things never seem so good as you remember them!
It's a bit like the argument in favour of a nuclear deterrent! City are in the process of having a statue of John Atyeo. So if we've both got a statue....................
