Lots on here saying that Howe's days are numbered (whether it's that he's fed up and looking at England job, or not good enough and going to get the boot). So my thought is who do these people think will take us to the next level? I don't mean blue sky, fantasy manager, rub a genie's lamp and get who you want. I mean in the current stage of the project (with a handful of top quality players and glimpses of potential success, matched with still having the likes of Burn, Krafth, Murphy, Miggy, Longstaff, etc. in the match day squad and no immediate solution due to PSR restrictions), which manager: 1. Has the experience, calibre and successful track record that Howe lacks, AND 2. Is going to WANT to come here right NOW, AND 3. Can actually make a genuine difference with this current squad (without throwing toys out of the pram), AND 4. Would be available to come to us (above other existing contracts or better offers they might have)? I'd genuinely love to know who the 'realistic' candidates are. As I say, not the fantasy manager league choices, realistic choices. Ones who can meet the above criteria. I agree with those saying Howe isn't the finished article. But for me, he is probably right for the current phase, given where we are, who we have in the squad and the current financial restrictions. I think in about 1 or 2 years we'd perhaps need a genuine step up, who can take us to the next level. But if anyone can help to fast track that right now, with this squad, who is it?
Hard to answer this, really depends on timing and our situation at the time. I’d be surprised if it’s a top top manager but I’d expect someone of Emerys calibre.
1. Niko Kovac, 52, formerly Bayern manager, worked with Mitchell at Monaco, strong character, plays 4-3-3. Not a stayer, though. 2. Edin Terzic, formerly Dortmund manager, still relatively young, also prefers a 4-3-3. UCL finalists, beat us twice last season. Only managed one club, only just left. 3. Pochettino, worked with Mitchell at both Saints and Spurs. Hanging around for a big club job, IMO. 4. Julian Nagelsman, current Germany boss but rumoured to be itching for a club return, worked with Mitchell at RB Leipzig. If anyone has the time, read this - it's a brilliant piece on Mitchell: https://totalfootballanalysis.com/d...tal-impact-at-monaco-data-analysis-statistics
I would like Howe to become a world class manager with us. Who we can get in will all depend on how the board sell the club and project. As to who would make a genuine difference, we won't truly know that until they rock up and start working with the current players So not a definitive answer, but I'm not sure there is one to your question
Again, good options, but I think only Kovac is currently likely. Would Terzic leave Dortmund? Would Nagelsmann leave German role? Think Poch has just joined USA?
Tbf if the calibre of our next manager (assuming we lose EH) is of the list above then we’re laughing regardless of which one is chosen
Strictly speaking, it’s pretty confidential but let’s just say I might need to leave the Earl a little earlier on Saturdays going forward.
