The latest KingFut survey of their top correspondents projects Gedo will start as striker for Egypt against Ghana on Tuesday in Kumasi. Elmo is projected as a back up to Fathi at right back. I doubt Gedo will play more than 60 minutes. Both should be available for the Everton game. http://www.kingfut.com/2013/10/10/kingfuts-egypt-xi-vs-ghana/#comments
Seems Bradley prefers Fathi or Elmo. Did not get the situation with Fathi. He played one full game (?) for us made one mistake which I think let to a goal but the Guardian reported him as the best player on the field. He was never seen again.
I didn't get it either. Looked a class player whenever he came on and should have played more imo. Obviously it doesn't matter though, as we got promoted
That one baffled me too. I looked at a few videos of Fathi playing for al-Ahly in the world club championship in Japan where they were beaten 1-0 by Brazil's Corinthians in the semi-final. Fathi looked class and played in a mid-field/wing role. I thought he was the best of our three Egyptians and a lot of Egyptians who had seen a lot more of them than I had felt the same way. I have no idea why he didn't get more playing time with us. Elmo is his back up on the National team.
I liked the look of Fathi too. I suspect Fathi and Gedo were Allam signings, rather than Bruce ones and due to a lack of strikers Bruce had to play Gedo, but the same wasn't true of Fathi.
It's not looking too good for the North African nations. Morocco are gone, Tunisia will be underdogs in Cameroon after drawing the home leg, Algeria have a home leg to come but are 3-2 down to Burkina Faso (so a toss-up), and Egypt have a tough fixture against Ghana. Could there be a World Cup finals without a North African nation? My gut says Algeria will still get through, and the bookies see Egypt v Ghana as an even encounter, so we'll probably see one or perhaps two, but zero is a real possibility.
I think Egypt will do Ghana, they have more on form players (as far as my research goes anyway). I'm not sure how Burkina Faso managed to beat Algeria, but I suspect they won't be reaching their first World Cup this year. Actually, which of our players could (assuming their countries qualify) be going? Gedo/Elmohammady - Egypt Huddlestone/Livermore - England (depending on the campaign, the former is obviously more likely) Figueroa - Honduras Aluko - Nigeria Sagbo - Ivory Coast (again, depending on how good a season he has) Koren - Slovenia (Although I think he's retired from Internationals, wasn't it to focus on his club career with us?) Faye - Looking at Senegal's defenders, it's doubtful he'd get called up anyway and I also think he's retired from Internationals, but given his experience and form for us, he probably deserves at least a consideration.
