Yet again, he's gone of the rails.

Paul Gascoigne has been sectioned and placed on a three day emergency detox after his latest alcohol binge.
The 47-year-old was rushed to hospital at 3am yesterday morning after police were called to his home in Poole, Dorset.
Medics had been called just hours earlier and carried out an assessment where his condition was considered to be stable, however, he reportedly worsened over the next 12 hours.

I really don't think he's going to reach 50. It's so sad to see what has happened to him.

Tis sad, but not sure there's any help that will ever solve this to be honest. Fair play to the likes of Linekar that tried to support him, they can't do much more.

He has had countless help, alot of money pissed against the wall trying to aid him in his plight and he seems content to drink himself to death.

I find it hard to give a **** tbh.

Think a lot are starting to feel that way now..But watch when the day comes, how many people will turn out with their faux sympathy.

Can see both points of view, but to be honest I think most of the ones that have given up on him have already mourned his passing. The creature above barely resembles Gazza.

I feel for anyone with addiction but a lot of good will is running out with Gazza.
I genuinely have mixed emotions here as I'll always love Gazza to bits.

Here's a question... If he had always stayed at the Toon and shunned the bright lights of London and Rome, do you think things would have turned out differently?

He's had a canny life though, international footballer and for the last ten years (or maybe more) he's done nowt but get pissed.

I'm quite jealous, while he has been getting blotto, I've been grafting my bollocks off.

    Who's the winner here?

I really doubt that had he changed any part of his career that it would have made a difference, alcoholism is probably one of the worst addictions as drinking is socially accepted and therefore there are no restictions on the access to alcohol, whilst he may have burned his bridges he is deserving of a level of sympathy because at the end of the day he is genetically hardwired into this situation. As others have said the only way this will end for him is as with George Best with his death. Again as with George Best Gazza had a rare talent, like many though who are so talented they also have flaws, it almost seems to be part of the balance, someone will be gifted in sport, art, music or any field but this can be linked with a destructive part of their make up.

Gazza will always be regarded as a legend on Tyneside, however, he has shunned all help over the years and is hell bent on killing himself and lots of people, myself included, no longer give a damn. It's really only a question of when now.

<ok> People always say "what a waste of talent" but he has lived the good life. Fair enough recent years he has been a complete bum, but otherwise had a canny time of things

If he had stayed with us then not much would have been different. I'm sure I read somewhere that in the 80's we were one of the so called drinking clubs and all that would have been different would have been his 'mates' dragging him down to the Quayside instead of London's clubs. It's possible that it might not have happened so quickly, but i doubt his addiction to alcohol would have been fended off any better up here than in London. The only possibility, and we'll never know whether it would have worked out for him, but maybe, just maybe if he hadn't backed out of that contract with Man United then Alex Ferguson might have been able to keep him on the straight and narrow. SAF wasn't everyone's cup of tea, and he may well have washed his hands of Gascoigne, but for all his bluster he had a knack of taking players under his wing if he had a soft spot for them - and most people did have a soft spot for Gazza back then (even the occasional mackem).

So sad. Appreciate, as others have already said, he's had some fantastic times, but it's still terrible to see anyone go down this route.

Don't think he's ever going to be able to sort himself out properly, certainly not long term.

Was great to watch in his day. Now just a shadow of a man.

    Best of luck Gazza!

I will always love Gazza. He was one of the greatest footballers to come out of this area. He was a rare talent and for a while shined and brought entertainment and excitement to the football pitch. Yes he could have done more and been one of the greatest ever, I always believed he had that level of talent and it's sad that he didn't.

What is forgotten is the degree of pressure he was under due to his level of talent that very few people have to endure. Similar to Bestie. Combine that with a self destruct button which seems to go with rare talent and someone like Gazza was/will never survive and overcome the burdens put upon him.

Yes he's had help and yes he seems to spurn it but that is due to his addiction. Does anyone genuinely think this is the way Gazza wants to be. Yes, he's the only one who can solve his problems but unfortunately he doesn't seem equipped to do it. I can't understand why people seem to no longer care what happens to him given the joy he gave to so many people.

I hope he recovers but sadly I don't think he will but I hope people still keep trying to help him to help himself and not just give up on him for all the wonderful memories of a footballing genius.

I feel for the lad. He's obviously desperately lonely, sad and lost. I wish I could see him overcoming all of this but it's gone on so long that the end seems inevitable. I'd love to be proven wrong.

For me he was the last great English football hero. By that I mean the player who all fans, regardless of club bias, loved.

Real shame ! I was fortunate to have been at Wembley back in 1996 when he scored that brilliant goal against Scotland. What a superbly talented player he was then.

Hope he can pull through this, and recover.

Save it for after he dies. Short of sewing up his mouth he will drink himself to death.
All the sympathy soundbites from celebrities and minutes silences for him but he wasted his life.
Tragic but it's just greed .
