gareth ainsworth is on tv tonight on bbc one football show late kick off 1135 i wonder what he will say about the goal that wasnt on saturday, should be interesting to watch.
The usual reply when they agree the opposing team was robbed is "I didn't see from where I was so I couldn't comment". Why doesn't the interviewer follow up with "Have you not seen the replays?" or "Well take a look at this and then answer".
I never see the point of discussing these things to be honest. If I was a player I would just say 'The ref gave it so it's a goal.' I would expect 'Well, we've had a few decisions go against us this season and it all evens out at the end of the day' The referee was appalling at the Stevenage game so I would take a bit of good luck!
I suggest there's a difference between a fact (such as the ball crossing the line, or not) & the ref interpreting whether something was a foul, or not (or a linesman an off-side, or not). Yes, the interpreting of fouls/offsides etc do even themselves up over the season. But we lost out on points, which could cost us in the final run-in. Goal line technology is all we need, nothing else. A chip in the ball, to vibrate the refs armband when it crosses the line. Countless sports have similar technology, so why can't football? We all remember Lampards goal that was never given in the World Cup, surely? We've lost points thanks to the incompetence of officials & that's simply not fair. There's no bitterness towards Wycombe, who judged on the game itself deserved a draw. But the FACT remains, we were the only side to actually score & therefore should have been awarded the 3 points.
i bet that ref would need a chip in his head to vibrate before he realised what was going on,i bet he is sponsored by mccains, even wenger would have seen that
We don't even need goalline technology Jenny. All it needs is someone sat anywhere watching the tele who can relay the decision to the ref. Each team could have say two referrals allowed and, if they used a referral, play would be held up for a few seconds while the TV replay was shown to all and the correct decision made. The ref could also consult the TV replay if there was any doubt in his mind, at no cost to either side. There is so much debate about goal line technology, the benefits, the cost. We don't need goal line technology. What we have already could be used for any difficult decision and it wouldn't cost anything. Why they don't use it in a few games as a trial I don't know. It would have taken a few seconds to decide that was not a goal and no-one would be complaining.
Just saw the show on iplayer now. The referees decision is final, regardless if he is correct or not, for example a referee can give a penalty when it shouldnt have been and a linesman can call offside e.t.c Thankfully in this case the ref gave us a goal Anyway as for changing footballing decissions about goal line technology why bother, the mistakes of the officials have caused controversy for years and makes football what it is!
