Always thought Gayle was a decent player. Probably because he seems to always score against us! got good pace and can find the net, better than any other strikers you have in my opinion
Can't play as a lone striker. Good option to have on the bench but if we have somebody else lined up it'd be a good deal
I'm pretty sceptical about this rumour. However, if there is any truth in it, this would have me worried given our system! It's a lot of money for someone who wouldn't be an effective part of Plan A.
Sounds like they have put in an offer today, £15m I'd take and run away with, Kenedy or Origi would be good replacements on loan and go with Mitro, Joselu, Ayoze + a loanee until the end of the season and look at where we need strengthening at that point.
I'm not sure that going up a division and selling our top scorer from the past season without replacing him first is exactly a *good* plan. If we were getting a loanee in, I'd want to see it signed and sealed before Gayle got out of the door. No transfer fee for a loan (most likely) so only risk would be paying Gayle's wages for an additional 4 months until January if we didn't manage to sell him in time. Compare that to the increased risk of relegation, and the associated costs, and it should be a no brainer. Still, IRWT.
Quote from Reuben the Desperate Newcastle fan on the BBC Website: "Newcastle United really need to get in some transfers. Very stuck as to whether I want Dwight Gayle or not? He is a Championship striker but he was our talisman. Hopefully if we do sell him, we will actually have a GOOD replacement. Good ol' Ashley and Charnley will have it all worked out" Firstly he wasn't our talisman, as he was crocked half the season, you can hardly be a shining beacon of light when that happens. Secondly he ain't a championship striker, he's easily Prem quality when he's on form, but he won't be on form cos he'll be injured constantly again. Yeah I'm happy for him to go, he's too unreliable, doubt we'll get a decent replacement, but I'm past caring now.
Last time we sold the 9 this close to the end of the window, things didn't turn out great. Last time we didn't strengthen but looked to January if we were struggling things also didn't turn out great. Will lessons be learned? I'm still hoping Windy's right - this sale of Gayle would represent something of a surprise exit, do we then still have a trick or two up our sleeve??
We sold a crocked Caroll who hardly played for the rest of that season, and this time we'll sell a crocked Gayle who will hardly play for the rest of this season. In terms of what we're actually losing, the contribution made by either staying would have been minimal. I doubt Ashley's got a trick up his sleeve (or between his flab rolls), but we might even get a Gayle replacement to rival the legend that was Shefki Kuqi.
