Gavin Henson is to star in a new reality TV dating programme, reports Wales Online. The Wales international rugby player will appear in The Bachelor, a UK spin-off of a popular US show of the same name, hust three months before he would be due to play in the World Cup. The programme will see 25 glamorous women competing to be picked as the woman of Henson's dreams. The player has been named in Warren Gatlandâs preliminary 45-man squad ahead of the World Cup. The WRU has given the go-ahead for Henson to film the show as well as giving him a personal training programme to get into shape in the run-up to the tournament. There are said to still be âseveral weeksâ of filming to go for the Channel 5 series. Henson will whittle down the contestants during a variety of group dates and one-to-one meetings as he chooses his ideal partner. Henson â who split from singer Charlotte Church, the mother of his two children, last year â said: "I'm so excited to have been cast as The Bachelor as I really feel the time is right for me to find a girl to hopefully spend the rest of my life with. "Iâve always been dedicated to my rugby and continue to train hard but as the season draws to an end I can focus on meeting the right girl. "It can be hard in my situation to meet women and The Bachelor will give me the unique opportunity to go on some incredible dates and spend quality time getting to know amazing women from all over the UK." A WRU spokesperson said: âGavin Hensonâs next requirement as part of Walesâ 45-man 2011 Rugby World Cup training squad is to report for duty at the WRU National Centre of Excellence at the Vale resort on June 30 in time for the first of two separate training camps in Spala, Poland, in July and ahead of warm-up fixtures against England, home and away, and Argentina in August. âThe squad are currently committed to personalised training programmes in and around prescribed holiday periods, meaning some are already on site at WRU headquarters and others have been given regimes to follow away from camp depending on their personal requirements, like Gavin, or are resting or undergoing rehab. Gavin is fulfilling a work commitment which was in place before he was selected for national squad duty and doing so in the full knowledge of the Wales management team. âHe has already undergone periods of extra conditioning work and is maintaining constant contact with the WRUâs head of strength and conditioning, Adam Beard.â The 29-year-old made his comeback after a two-year absence from international rugby with an appearance in Wales' 28-31 loss to the Barbarians in Cardiff earlier this month.
