I watched the match on BT last night. What a cracker! Gateshead were superb in the first half playing football the way I just love; pass and move; stringing passes together in triangles; then hitting long balls to wide men on the touchline. Did they miss once with the long ball in the first half? I donât remember any. Frankly, had it not been for some stirling defending in the box and a great save from Speiss, the Gas would have been down and dusted before half time. Second half what a turn around. The Gas closed them down before Gateshead could play their pretty football; the supply was cut off before they could get the ball out to their wide guys; Sinclair chased around like an absolute hero and found his man with his passes. What happened to Gatesheadâs star of the first half, Rodman? Well he did score a goal from a poor piece of defending; other than that he was totally nullified. My only disappointment is that we are still not playing well in the final third. The crosses into the box in the first half were nothing short of utter rubbish. The two goals we scored to get back on level terms were straight out of the Boyâs Own manual. We cannot rely on those going in every match. Oh! And Iâm sorry Mr Wall, but can we have Ryan Brunt back please. And by the way. I don't think I have ever seen a Gas player be booked before for blowing kisses at an opponent!
Nineteen shots on target apparently... But a great result against one of the contenders. And these days we seem to be able to come back from all sorts of setbacks which is great. Looking forward to the next run of games now. Hopefully Chester can get something from Barnet today. Looks as though Macclesfield will be the main threat... I've got a lot of confidence in our manager and our team...UTG!
Darrell Clarke deserves an enormous amount of credit for turning things around at half-time, and as you say Sapphire, that was a cracking game. I hope Rodman doesn't turn up at the Mem again btw, because he's scored on all three of his visits!
I also watched on TV, after first goal, we were playing rubbish as we let the opposition dictate the pace and we were just not up to it. I turned the tv to watch something else as a hammering was to be cosidered likely.I returned after 50 mins had bee played and then got called away to return to find the score was 1-2, but we are playing with so much more determination, I stayed to the end, although the last 5 mins were scary,as some thought the job was done. Not for the first time the manager has told the players to up the tempo at the half time break, why wait to half time, surely they are fit enough and mature enough to realise that you must be in the oppsitions face from the start and not give them time to dictate. Please Mr C select a winning side for the next match and dont tinker, do your tinkering on the practice field.
Great win and good to see us score three only the second time this season I've noticed Torquay let on **** loads so we could be in for two cracking games over the festive period.
1st half was like watching the game vs Bath all over again. It was great to see DC change things during the 1st half which did make a big difference. If Ward was still in charge, thats change would not have happened until the 70th minute and the game would have been lost by then. Also his half time team talk was spot on. He really got to the players and motivated them to turn the game around. FULL credit must go to him. When we scored to go 1-1 and then conceded straight away to go 1-2 down, I thought the worse. Thought we worked hard to get back into the game and just threw it all way due to lack of concentration. But we stayed firm & pushed/attacked for a winner & could have got a 4th too. I missed Sinclairs goal It was squeaky bum time at the end and when 7 minutes went up I feared the worse!! Well done Rovers. 1st have was total crap. Pathetic. Shambles. It was was I expected after the Bath result to be honest. I didnt expect the good solid 2nd half performance. We must build on this now.
