A legend, loved at every club he played.

Ten years since his passing. Has mental health support improved in this time?

    Difficult to ask for help.

Such a waste that, he always came across as a proper football man and a good egg. **** knows what truly happened on that fateful night, that’s a story that only 2 people know and one of them is dead.

I still think mental health support is well below where it should be. I worked in that field for 16 years in the NHS and we were always the poor relation to physical health in terms of funding.

I'm a bit out of the loop with it all these days, but certainly in my time rather than more money going into services, there was less and less, with the charity sector being expected to pick up the slack. There are a few good mental health charities around, but the problem is always funding as many of them only get funded for 18 months or so, and are then expected to generate their own operating costs.

With the UK leaving the EU, the funding streams have dried up even further as the EU used to support loads of grassroots charities along the lines of mental health, wellbeing, healthy activities etc.

Demand has gone through the roof with COVID too. Mediocre psychologists able to charge top whack and good luck getting adequate and prompt mental health support on the NHS. Private healthcare is sadly well worth getting if you can afford it.

There's a lot of Charlatans out there and there's also a lot of well meaning people who want to help, but think that an online diploma in psychology will cut it. There's a real danger of people getting poor services from people who simply aren't equipped to manage this type of work.

I was listening to a prog on radio 4 the other day about how the NHS is going to farm people out to the private sector because they simply cannot meet the demand. They were interviewing a commissioner of services, which I used to be involved with too, so I know how rigorous the commissioning of services needs to be to make it safe and effective. She was basically saying they have no other choice, because the Govt have told them to signpost people into services where there is basically zero checks and balances.

We're having a minutes silence before all our junior FAW games tomorrow morning.

Did think it was a bit unnecessary at first but if the kids can relate to mental issues I see no reason why not.

I'm not really going to get into this debate, because I can't be arsed, it's an utter waste of time, there is no more help then there ever was, just go for a walk it will make it all better, the problem is most of them are walking to their nearest bridge or woodland.

I will leave you with this passing thought, do you think the recent teenage on teenage murders (and younger), do you think attempted terrorist acts by disheartened individuals, do you think the rise in violent crimes, are all a coincidence, no it's because we all got locked down (I understand the reasons), and now we are going to be paying the consequences of that for a very long time.

    I'm done now. :)

I started with specialist renal help, then local GP, now its a telephone service! Luckily the tips/techniques taught while under dedicated help have helped me this far and I hope will not need direct contact again

One of those occasions where I still recall where I was when I heard the news ... tragic and very sad.
