<rose> just read the terrible news.
As we have a Welsh connection I thought it appropriate to post this message of condolence to his family and friends.
It's a stark reminder that football is just a game.
    Rest in peace Gary.

I don't know what to make of this. I just looked at the news in stunned silence. How can something like this happen to a man of 42 with a young family? Thank you Gary for what you did for football.

  3. Suicide, apparently. It's left Robbie Savage, one of his closest friends, in a deep state of shock, because he'd been talking to him only the night before, and he says that there was absolutely no indication that there was anything wrong with his mental state.

A very strange one indeed, isn't it?
Seemed to have everything going for him.

He was on Football Focus yesterday and the presenter's Tweet summed up what everyone else seems to be saying:
"Staggered by the news of Gary Speed's death. Was with him for much of yesterday [Saturday]. I genuinely cannot believe it. Thoughts with his family.
"Gary was full of life yesterday talking about his kids, bright future with Wales, Twitter, golf. Can't get my head round it. So sad."
I watched it and he seemed to be looking to the future.

    RIP.
One of the defining figures of the Premier League.

Stunned. Like you guys have said everything seemed to be going his way and he looked as happy as you can yesterday. Then we hear this news. Also to comment on his spell as Wales manger, he was doing really well and got them playing some lovely stuff. Pace on the wings and great passing in the middle and I loved watching them under his spell. Was looking forward to watching their progress under him. Hopefully the players make him proud when they put that shirt on again and carry on what he started.

    R.I.P Garry Speed <rose>

As far as I'm aware at this point no details have been publieshed about his death so lets not speculate or allude to anything even if it's on Twitter.

RIP to a top player and a promising manager.

I didn't believe my eyes when my friend texted me and told me. A huge loss to both the game and obviously for all who know him. I hope the TRUTH about his death comes out as painlessly possible so that both his family can get closure and so that any rumermongers can be silenced.

    RIP Gary Speed

This tragedy brings to mind a couple of things:

In the big scheme of things, Football, as much as we love it, is just not that important.

As much as we build our heros up as supermen, or our football villains likewise, they are at the end of the day, ordinary men like us with the same flaws and weaknesses.

Gary Speed was a model pro and a good man. He will be sadly missed. RIP <rose>

Unbelievable sad news, but sorry, no tributes yet till why. I feel extremely sorry for his family, but I just don't get why a successful man would want his wife or kids to find him hanging in a garage, because in that scenario, they're the only people that are going to. That is just as often the act of someone with something to hide, as it is of someone who is depressed. People around him would know if there was anything medical like that going on, he's a high profile person, someone would notice.
