I can't believe it. Even more shocking that they are assuming it's suicide. Apparently found hanged in his house. So young as well.

The BBC are reporting suicide and rumours say he hung himself. Police are going to issue a statement later
Just shows that even the most successful can commit suicide, that depression can affect us all. A terrible loss for Wales and football in general. Condolences to his family, RIP Gary Speed.
I echo everything that has been said so far. A true role model and also a very under rated player I thought. Saw him only yesterday on Football Focus looking very happy and even speaking about the bright future he had with his Wales side. Just goes to show that issues like this can never be ignored or under estimated. Still in sock and dis-belief now.

So strange that he was laughing and joking on Football Focus apparently yesterday and Robbie Savage spoke to him before last night Strictly Come Dancing and showed no signs at all of anything being wrong or depressed. Just shows you never know what goes on behind closed doors

When Sir Bobby died everyone had a minutes silence for a couple of weeks although they was on different levels
Gary Speed was a top pro and i think part of the reason why all the clubs are having a minutes applause is to help raise awareness
Plus Andy King knew him well
Sir Bobby was england manager though so thats a bit irrelevant.
I have no problem with it, I just think we're jumping on a band wagon for a player that hasn't ever played for us.
Awareness for what? Nobody knows how he died for sure yet.
I think the idea is that things like this put football into perspective. He may not have played for either side, but he was a part of the greater footballing landscape, and gave pleasure to those who enjoy watching sides other than just their own, as I did a fair bit back in the 90s. He was part of the footballing world we all love so much, so I think it's fair enough.
Although, I don't know what the religious persuasion among fans are making of it - isn't suicide a sin?

I'm of the view that if we have a minutes applause/silence for Gary Speed we should have one for every footballer/ex-footballer that dies. As much as this is shocking and sad his life was worth no more or less than any other footballer.
Even today I still find this unbelievable. It was so out of the blue and unexpected, it just doesn't seem real.

Speedo was a model professional as a player, and was Wales manager when he died. He brought a lot of admiration from supporters of different teams, both as a player and national manager. We have Welsh people scattered throughout the UK, and I think it only right and proper that we remember him before our match tonight.
I can understand the question being raised about his connection with our club, but as national manager of one of the countrieswithin the UK, remembering him is the right thing to do.
There are many things that divide supporters of different clubs, but an event such as this should be respected with solidarity across the UK.
I am sure that it will be an emotional minute, especially for our Welsh City fans.
For the only time in my life, I will say 'Marching on together'.
