Telegraph reports he committed suicide - gulp ! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/8918628/Wales-boss-Gary-Speed-found-dead.html
Absolutely heartbreaking news. Was one of my favorite players growing up.. always seem to remember him having a different haircut every month.
My mum was watching Football Focus yesterday claiming how Gary Speed might be the 'Dishiest' football manager since Manicini. Tragic loss, I hope he's at peace.
Shocking news, and terribly sad. He seemed so normal on Football Focus yesterday, not a hint of what was to come :-(
RIP, true professional, and like it's been said already, was on football focus yday and seemed fine... how and why?
sorry for double post, do you think that minute silence will be on monday as a sign of respect, granted he had nothing to do with us but a true football great
Dont know about you - but i keep thinking what he must have been going through and why that it was bad enough to decide to take your own life? - i know i have bad days and i even have bad weeks/months, but never ever have thought about taking my own life. Why?
I assume we will - especially as we have Rhoys Wiggins who has been in and around the Wales squad under Speed.
Article from last Friday re: Babak Rafati's attempted suicide. All the more relevant now http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2011/nov/25/the-secret-footballer?newsfeed=true Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam usail Stu, I don't know enough about depression to give you your answers, but I know it can be a very overwhelming thing that takes over your life. It's not just being very sad or going through a tough patch.
I was mascot a while back when we lost 4-1 to Bolton at the Reebok, (gives you an idea of how young i am) and Speed spent about 10 minutes talking to me and my dad, and from that conversation and what I've gathered of him, he was seemingly a lovely man.
Stu, a Coroner once told me this - In a suicide, there is no "Why", there's just "When", "Where" and "How". The only person who truly knows "Why" is the person themselves, and by the nature and finality of the act they will never be able to reveal their true motivation. Comfort the living, remember the dead, and move on.
