Did anyone see last nights Monday night football on Sky Sports (well done to Wigan and Bobby Brown shoes by the way). Gary Neville was talking about cheats in football. He was showing examples of how players cheated and how hard it had become for ref's. To be fair he included himself, his mate Beckham, Lampard, Messi etc etc. He then went on to show an honest player (team). Guess who!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only our own Neil Taylor v Spurs a few weeks back. Well done Neil, I think this attitude must start with the manager. Personally I would rather lose fairly than win by cheating. Think what the football world would think of John Terry if he had told the ref on Sunday that the ball did not cross the line. Instead he ran away celebrating, trying to con the ref. He even had a pop at the Spurs players for protesting to the ref. The result will soon be forgotten but his action would have been remembered forever. There's a banner at Stamford Bridge saying JT - Captain-Hero-Legend. Perhaps they should change it to JT-Cheat-Liar-T**T. Up the JACKS
Mata did the same - and he had the best view. It would have been obvious to him it hadn't crossed the line. One way this blight on the game can be stopped is instant red cards. Trouble is, Tevez would have gone against Norwich when in fact it was a pen, not a dive. Most of us used to cringe at Gomez whilst applauding his contribution. Possibly the worse culprit to wear a Swans shirt. This phenomenon is a recent import from overseas imo where leagues like La Liga are rife with it. It's proliferated there because refs do little about it and seem to accept it as part of the game. Ultimately, all this nonsense can be resolved with technology. If both teams are given a set number of challenges per half (or game) then refs would be given the benefit of seeing what the rest of us do in slow mo. In fairness to them the game is played at such a high speed it's very difficult at times.
Awesome quote from Gary Neville; '20 years ago, you ordered bread in a restaurant and you got a lump of butter. Now you get olives, oil and vinegar' I'm starting to like the guy!
There was no doubt that Ashley young cheated with his dive, wouldn't like that type of player in our squad, though we did have that Diving cheat Jordi Gomez a few seasons back, and I'm glad he's not here now, watching him last night was the only down side to Wigans game, he dives and falls over at the slightest touch, and it needs to be stamped out by the officials, yes they will not always get it right, as with the Tevez instance, but stamp it it, it must be. Well done to Niel Taylor for being the honest player example, who although being fouled twice, still stayed on his feet, that's how it should be, and the referees need to wise up to the issues on both sides of the argument, a player should not have to go down, for the referee to blow his whistle, as that is cheating too by the referee!......................
I thought I was the only one who liked Gary Neville. For a start, he's relatively unbiased (unlike that twonk Thompson who goes on and on about Liverpool) and he's played with or against most of the current crop of Prem players. His insight is useful to Sky and he comes across quite well in my book. Always complimentary about the Swans too.
True, always hated him as a player, but agree, as he was playing alongside most of the current crop of Prem stars he has a view worth listening to.
please log in to view this image On the money there knackered, he was a tough cookie on the pitch, and his plain speaking is refreshing off it too! Love listening to him................
Neville's not one of favourite people in football. But must take my cap of too him, for addressing this issue. My biggest bug bearer in football, diving & bad decisions. I hate it when player fall over with the slightest of contacts, rolling over half a dozen times after a tackle whilst looking at the ref. Neville was spot on, have to admire him for saying Ashley Young dived and then giving great credit to Neil Taylor for staying on his feet. He's gone up in my estimation. Top man Gary!!
Hate cheats ! Don't forget that Gomez got Dyer sent off a few weeks ago! Hated the cheating sod playing for us.
There was an outstanding cheating performance at Stamford Bridge last night - a certain Didier Drogba feigning injury every 5 mins. An embarrassment to football.
Last night I thought the picture on my telly was a bit fuzzy, I went and tapped the side of it and Drogba fell over !!
