Have you considered we may have someone with us who could fit the bill for manager ? Think Gary knows us inside out and it's time he hung is boots up now. But we would need somebody to come in of experience like a technical director. Know it's out there a little and people will say no experience in the role, but look at Martinez he was the same age.

In one of my comments today I did actually mention this, although I do feel it's too soon it is still a realistic option. No one knows they way we player better than Monk, Curtis and Pascoe

It would be nice to promote from within but at this level and without knowing gary's qualifications could he ? there is a ruling about specific qualifications for a manager

Yes there is, but there is dispensation to train on the job for this. How many were ready for Martinez to be manager by the way ? ;)

Okay just read up on it, you must be a pro licence holder to coach in the premier league, unlike the lower leagues. So Gary is not possible, but would still like him to have some role in behind the scenes.

Garry would be useful as a liaison between the new manager and the players; explain to him what our team is about and guide him if he tries to stray too far from our footballing ethic. No more than that.

We are Premier League now and we don't want amateurs or untried young guns making their mistakes at our club or using us a learning curve. There's far too much at stake and we should use our compensation, every penny of it if necessary, to employ the best manager that our money can buy - always allowing that it is someone who will continue to develop and improve our style of football.

Martinez and Rodgers were young, ambitious and relatively untried as well, will come the counter arguments. Fair enough but RM took us on in the lower divisions where it is far easier to mistakes without getting punished for them. He also knew the club and most of the players inside out having played with them. Rodgers had a first class grounding under JM at Chelsea, as he never tires of repeating, and, to be fair to him, he had all the makings of a top coach. It took us to recognise it and bring it out of him.

We were lucky in that respect because we were a good fit - BOTH ways and he had the luxury of finding his feet in the Championship. To find someone like that again would be extremely difficult. The Premier League is the toughest competition in the world. We need a manager who will hit the ground running. We recovered after Sousa's disastrous start (not his fault) but that was at a lower level. If we start next season badly, it will take one hell of an effort to recover from it given the quality that we will be playing week in week out. We would be regarded as lame ducks rather than high flying Swans and teams will be lining up to fill their boots at our expense.

In my opinion, the next managerial appointment could be the most important decision we have ever made as a club. At the very least there is £40/60 million at stake and a whole lot more if we can establish ourselves over a number of seasons. It is our very future - the Academy; training/medical facilities; ground expansion etc etc etc. Now is not the time for amateur hour, we need and, in my opinion, deserve the very best we can afford. So, Huw, don't scrimp, pay whatever you have to to get the best man in. You've done pretty well at it thus far.

It has to be monk .<ok> none of this rubbish he has no experience, he has all the experience we need to keep the club as it is. If we pay millions for an outsider then we dont know what will happen. it will be a waste of money when we have a ready made person who has done his badges and will be going into the management side in the not to distant future....what a piece of good fortune that is for us and we must take advantage and install Garry as the new manager from tomorrow. siggs may even sign then as all the players will back garry 100%...why would they not..

If we follow your suggestion, Dai, we'll be back in the Championship before we know it. And why should Siggy sign just because Monk is the manager? I totally fail to see your logic. Respect? Well he might have respect as a player but he won't have it as a coach because he's never been one!

The players will be judgemental from day one. A team mate one minute, their boss the next with absolutely no qualifications for the job in hand. Won't work, mate! We need a top man, highly experienced to fill the void and take us on to compete in the toughest league in the world.

By all means let Monk add to his experience perhaps by being a link man between the players and the manager - at a push, even his assistant and one day I'm sure he could become a very good manager. But here? Now? Officially the coach of Swansea City AFC? Never! Huw would have to be off his rocker to swallow that one and we'd be the laughing stock of the entire football world.

Dragon it was just a thought, do I have to run it past you before I post something ? Are you the part of topic police or something ? Its bad enough we had someone in disguise as a swans fan posting similar posts, but now you are saying what people should post ! It's not your forum I will post what I think ok ?

Besides all that I went looking for information and discovered that from 2010 you must be a pro coach to manage in the premier league, so did say that above !

why would we be back in the championship with monk ivor???? did we get relegated when we appointed a div two player at the time in martinez ??? no we did not because martinez carried on from where jackett left off and he knew the players. Monk has grown with the club from div2 till now and who would know better than him how we do things. He would be an instant hit and we would have a better chance with him at the helm than we would with a total outsider......can you see vorm, sinclair ,dyer, and a few others staying with a total outsider coming in stamping his authority on things and unsettling the players routine.....i cant.....with garry in charge nothing really will change and we might be able to get Sig's to sign terms. If we change the way the club is run to much then that will unsettle the players and it will be hard to keep the best ones if bigger clubs come calling....you can bet on it....so dismiss the possibility of monk all you like but he is the hidden saviour of our club...be warned we cant miss this opportunity because you cant see further than your nose...
as for being a pro coach then that wont be a problem as he can do that while still managing the club...
