just been thinking of the future post JT and who would be best suited to replace him and i just cant see past this lad . when we originally brought him off Bolton i thought it was a good signing for 7 Million especially in the current transfer market. but i didnt expect to much from him in fact i thought he would probably look out of his depth but the lad really looks in his element has put in some really fine displays at the very top level in CL Semi and Finals . he displays many of the qualities that got JT the role a few years ago and at 26 years old he's still pretty young and being English will really help his cause i think in the fans eyes (not that we wouldnt accept a non English Captain) .

what do you all think is he the man to fill Terry's boots ?.

With the squad we've got at the moment Cahill seems the most likely candidate! Terry 's probably got 2 or 3 more years in him though and and it will be interesting to see how things develope in that time. How will Bertrand mature? Who will be signed! The captain will have to be a very good player, respected by the other players and with a forceful character! Cahill will need to prove he has all this!

He hasn't done much wrong since he joined us, like Luiz was a bit all over the shop until he bedded in. Played really well back end of last season, and with Luiz, looked fantastic in the CL final when both of them played out of their skins against all the odds.
To me he has character, guts, skill and passion, not a bad resume. He also compliments Luiz perfectly, solid and strong alonside Luizs' flair and speed. Think he will relegate JT to a lesser role this year, and take over next year. And if / when JT commits his next inevitable screw up and gets himself a lengthy ban, he will struggle to get back in.

JT is still capable of games this season and still a terrific captain, but Cahill-Luiz is definitely our strongest pairing! I'd love to see them play the majority of games over the next couple of seasons.

Think you might get your wish Drogs. Not suggesting JT has had the richard, he is still a great player for us, but realistically he will probably gradually recede a bit and allow Luiz and Cahill to become top pairing. Still reads the game better than most, but the young quicks are starting to make his life more difficult.

JT seems to be getting more niggly little injuries too so RDM will be in a position where he wont have to drop JT as such he'll just fade slowly from the first team.
