I'm not surprised. It's no coincidence he was missing from the Citeh fiasco.Mrs CT still thinks he has a funny name though.
Pukka all these things must help build confidence back up. Newcastle is going to be interesting. I'll admit maybe to joining in with the knee jerk reaction at half time but somehow he managed to sort them out and pull his nuts out of the fire, fingers crossed Sent from my Sony Xperia Z1
i though snoddy had his best game this season on saturday evening. even though we struggled in the first half, he was possibly the pick of our players although howson was like a man possessed second half and was clear man of the match. best moment from snoddy, apart form the goal, was a brilliant defensive header in the second half, absolutely vital it was. he might not be having a great season but he still does his defensive duties and its one of the reasons why i think he's kept his place (along with injuries of course)
Personally I would've made Snoddy captain I think he's the closest we have to Holt in terms of work ethic determined to score, set things up, break free and track back Sent from my Sony Xperia Z1
interesting rich, i certainly see the reasons behind it. we do seem to lack a natural leader at the moment - holt was our talisman and even when he was struggling he was still 'the man'. bassong is never going to be that man and although he was my pick, neither is russell martin. i wouldn't be surprised if snoddy is third in line
Rich44 - If you had asked me at the start of the season I could totally see the logic of Seb as captain, Rusty as club captain however if you asked me now I would have to agree 100% with you. I listened to his interview on Radio Norfolk and he sounded like the sort of bloke who you'd want standing by you in the trenches. No excuses just the ethic that if it's not going well you just need to work harder and I doubt he'd be shy of giving some of his colleagues a well-deserved rocket if he felt that they were not pulling their weight. Hopefully the goal on Saturday (and if he can try not to get kicked in the head every week) will kick his season on and he can go on to have another year where he is threatening to be our player of the season. Quick further word of praise for Howson. I thought he was superb and he looks like he is improving week on week. Also kudos to Hughton for being brave and selecting him ahead of Johnson who would have been the safer choice given Tettey's absence and West Ham's formation.
Excellent Snodgrass based column in the Independent - and he speaks enough truth about many things Canary in this one piece to warrant the captain's armband http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...ressure-to-manager-chris-hughton-8931928.html Problem is, by changing it (the captaincy) now, CH would cause as many problems as he would solve
he doesn't have to have the armband to be a leader, although i appreciate that other than responsibility to lead by example, its more difficult to give people an ear bashing if required if you're not the captain
one person who barely gets a mention but strikes me as a leader is michael turner. he's been (by a long chalk) our best defender this season
i don't really see it matters. i never liked strikers getting the armband but holt was fantastic. its a case of whoever is right for the job should get it. generally, most captains tend to play either centre half or centre midfield but it's not a big problem where they play
Howson has been fantastic this season, really pushed on since being allowed to get forward! It has been so refreshing to watch someone drive forward with the ball from midfield. Am I right in saying that he was captain at Leeds? Would anybody consider him as a leader, certainly his performances are good enough but could he motivate the rest?
I'm pretty sure he was, yes. Then weren't Johnson and Snodgrass also given the armband before we signed them too!?
I was all for Russ as captain (obviously) but my 2nd choice would have been John Ruddy. Both have been at the club longer than Bassong. Snodgrass puts in lots of tackles which people don't really seem to appreciate.
Wouldn't a defender or goalie be more defence minded though?, is that the best thing when we are looking to improve our goal scoring?
Well I'm not sure that the Captain plays a massive role in the way the team plays tactically anyway, I think it's more of a motivational role. But our defence hasn't been very organised this season and we've had plenty of mishaps due to a lack of coordination or communication or whatever. I just can't help but feel Ruddy barking at the defenders might help them play together and we could concede less goals.
i'm not a fan of a GK being a captain russ, personally prefer an outfield player. certainly RM and SB's form has suffered from being given the armband, who knows it might well change
