Should he be given the job,has he done enough in his career to warrant the job.

    Me personally i think not.

The media seem to be keen, as were the TV pundits last night.
He fits the squeaky clean type the FA like.

I think he may be another Bryan Robson/Stuart Pearce - good players but can't manage.
I'm not sure he's strong enough for the position of England manager.
But I hope he is, he seems a decent sort.

England have already gone down the route of proven/experienced/expensive/foreign managers and? There has been little improvement.

Mr Southgate has done reasonably well with the U21's, done reasonably well (subjective) with the seniors, seem's happy to play youthful players, makes bold moves with Stones, and avoided drinking pints of wine in public bars in a shameless grubby effort to trouser a dodgy 400k bung.

Englands problems go deeper than Mr Southgate who will get slaughtered in the manner the proven/experienced/expensive/foreign managers did also.

As a as a permanent Manager he may make even more bolder selections than Jagielka and an un-fit Harry Kane. England can do worse than Mr Southgate and did, Allardyce disgraced England.

No for me, nice guy but an FA yes man, good alternatives would be - Glen Hoddle, Eddie Howe, Alan Pardew or my preference ~Sean Dyche..

Basically my thoughts, particularly the bit in bold.

What intrigues me is the optimism from those almost within the setup. Gary Lineker in particular is very optimistic with the amount of young talent we have, but to me it just doesn't seem good enough, when you see teams like Spain giving Aspas and Herrera their debuts last night (Herrera would have played for England 20 times by now). All of the optimism seems unfounded to me.

Define how Mr Southgates is a yes man?
Wouldn't any appointment be a yes man? All they can affect is who they select.

Mr Southgate has chosen to select for instance Rooney and Stones. Neither are free from criticism. Or is the FA picking the team? Can't see it.

think he deserves a go ..we are almost qualified??? so it would come down to the event if he kept the job beyond 2018 .. already some pundits say no matter who the manager is we are barely a qtr final team at best

And all because the country loves sky.

This is the one thing that has crucified our National Team.

To many foreign players in our top league.

In the case of players Mr Southgate has made a clear decision that he picks his team.

In the case of John Stones it is a brave and bold move away from the idea of a traditional British defender. I have never seen any England coach actively encourage defenders take the ball off the keeper so deep and under pressure. That is no yes man observing a risk averse approach. It is a move away from the Le Anglais pass and the basics of defending ( the British hoof ) which have not been enough in modern International football for a very long time.

I am not sure I am understand the question/questions. This it? Mr Southgate is the England coach as is Mr Johnson to BCFC. Positions of authority and as a humble coach working in grass roots football thinking about a large leap to UEFA B status they are worthy of my respect. You do not get given jobs like that ..

Wayne Rooney and Stones don't get a Mr.

What's the point of this discussion, because until we get players that want to put on the national shirt and play like they mean it, any managerial appointment would struggle to get respect. Mannequin performances do not make me believe in a team that generally play like dummies and just can't wait to get home and soak in the diamond encrusted Jacuzzi. Waste of space - the lot of them.

Playing passing football out from the back requires players with a neat first touch, able to think quickly and to be able to move the ball crisply and sharply to the next player, that thought should be made before even receiving the ball.

John Stones doesn't possess all the above abilities yet, his thought process was there for all to see from a mile away last night.

When he chooses badly.. its usually very badly.

I will give him time as he a still young.

    As For Southgate..

Doesn't inspire me yet.. but cant see anyone else on the horizon.

He might as well go through to the next tournament and see what happens.

I might be alone here but I enjoyed last nights game. I thought we pressed hard and had some urgency - not like the static crap I have seen recently. We took the game to Spain and they needed to foul us to try and stop us.
Yet again I was impressed by Townsend in particular. I was disappointed by Rashford though - but to be fair he didn't have much time to settle. Townsend had slightly longer.

The 2 goals Spain scored were unfortunate but hey ho it was a friendly anyway. We have to play to the final whistle - everyone knows that except successive generations of players - so it seems!
Very positive - and no I would not choose Southgate if given a free choice - it would be Hoddle, but we could do a lot worse (and we have done).
I feel more positive about England than I have done for some time - we may even make the knockouts in the next World Cup!
