Richard gave away a penalty (which was saved) and then latched on to a defensive howler to score in the 75th minute to put his Sydney FC side in front. This took his tally to 5 for the season from his centre midfield position. A late goal in extra time secured a 3-1 win for Sydney against their counterparts Western Sydney Wanderers in tonights Australian A League match which drew a crowd of 40,286.

Brisbane Roar still lead the competition with 41 points whilst Western Sydney are second on 34, Melbourne Victory are 3rd on 33 with Sydney FC 4th on 31.

Ex Hull City Striker Michael Bridges still dons the boots occasionally for his Newcastle Jets team who have Emile Heskey leading their charge.

40,000? Is that just because it was a derby or are there generally large crowds in the A league?

Yes mate, the two Sydney sides always draw a good crowd same as the two Melbourne Sides. They are bringing in about 20,000 each but some of the teams are down below the 10,000 mark but it's not bad and growing. The draw cards are Alesandro Del Piero for Sydney and Emile Heskey for Newcastle Jets. There's a Japanese star larker who is on good money too. It's still very hard to make a quid out of the game here but with del Piero playing EVERY Sydney game is televised live to Italy which brings in a few bucks. Just a shade more sponsorship and some international players who can put the proverbial 'bum's on seats' and the game continues to grow. I believe Michael Bridges position at the Jets includes looking for overseas sponsors, players and promoting the game in every way he can.
