Since Christmas, the Robins have only had three wins in 14 matches, But with City only losing once in their past four games, things look to be turning around. However, they will want to improve on an away record of just one win in their last nine. Reid, who has been outstanding in the last few games, is still the top scorer in Championship with 17 goals, tied with Matej Vydra of Derby. The Robins last result was a 1-0 win over Ipswich Town, the goalscorer being Milan Djuric in the 64 minute. The squad is also returning to near full fitness with Matty Taylor and Callum O’Dowda nearing a return to action. Barnsley have had five games without a win, and only one win in seven. Head Coach Jose Morais has had two weeks to work with the players because of the international break, and after a difficult couple of months he’s believed to be close to knowing his best XI. What is the team news? It’s largely good news as the squad is mostly fully fit ahead of the final eight games of the season. However, doubts remain over Callum O’Dowda and Matty Taylor’s involvement. Callum O'Dowda featured for City's under-23s on Thursday afternoon but he isn't yet ready for the first-team. please log in to view this image Callum O'Dowda is the latest Bristol City player to suffer an injury Matty Taylor is due to resume full training as of Monday. Elsewhere, Nathan Baker is nearing full fitness but is likely to have a role on the bench on Friday. The problem has been the nature of the injuries as they are mostly long term, especially because of their extended Carabao cup run, which looks like it has taken its toll. Aden Flint remains suspended due to that red card he picked up against Preston in injury time. However, Joe Bryan has just completed a two-match ban and is available for selection. Bryan will be a crucial player for Bristol City in their fight for promotion, with the left-back making 35 league appearances this season, the second most in the squad. please log in to view this image Lee Johnson chats with Joe Bryan after the win over QPR some weeks ago Regarding Barnsley, injury doubts for them include Matt Mills (foot) and the on-loan Everton player Joe Williams (back). A likely starting XI for them includes goalkeeper Davies who is back after birth, captain Yiadom, Jackson, Lindsay, Fryers, Gardner, Potts, Moncur; Thiam, Moore and McBurnie. Forward McBurnie is a lively player who has scored six of the last eight goals since January. What happened the last time the two sides met? The last time these two met was a while ago, on the 5 August of last year, which was the first game of the current season. Bristol City won that game 3-1, with Bobby Reid scoring two, and other came from record £5.3m signing Famara Diedhiou in what was his debut game for the club. The Robins will be looking to match the energy of that performance. It was a rampant first half display, with City 3-0 up inside the first half-hour. Reid got his goals in the 16 and 30 minute, whilst Diedhiou netted his first for the club in the 25 minute. Despite hitting the bar early on, Barnsley could only score one consolation goal late in extra time, coming courtesy of a scrappy effort from Ryan Hedges. I've only been watching the game for 5 minutes and we just went down 2-1 and look totally disinterested. What happened Lee? We look like the real Bristol City again.
Thanks Josh at least you have redeemed us somewhat, but I can't see the playoffs looming with those kinds of performances against supposedly inferior teams.
When you consider our possession compared to their shots it seems like a travesty, but we were obviously poor when we had the ball and that will usually end up in defeat. Sad fact of our lives right now, but there's still time to do the business, but we need to improve significantly over the final games otherwise our season will keep us where we are currently, unfortunately.
For all the praise received by Baker, Flint, Bryan etc, we do concede way too many goals. Not enough protection from midfield?
Simply not good enough by Mr Johnson junior. How the hell we are in striking distance of a play of spot is crazy after the 2018 performances. The only good news is results again went our way today.
