Put this in Beefy's corner but thought it deserved it's own thread.

Galatasaray president Ünal Aysal is interested in Southampton winger Gaston Ramirez according to Sabah newspaper editor Levent Tüzemen.

"Aysal wants Gaston Ramirez," Tüzemen said.

"Fernando Muslera has played an active role in trying to encourage the Uruguayan international to make the move.

"Galatasaray will be targeting younger players in the transfer window, Aysal used the recent €10 million signing of 19 year old Bruma as an example of how the clubs transfer policy has shifted."

The Uruguay star has failed to establish himself as a first-team regular at the Saints since joining the Premier League outfit from Bologna for £12million last season.

Ramirez's agent, Pablo Betancourt recently claimed that the Uruguayan international does not get on with Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino.

"Gaston really likes the (Southampton) chairman, Nicola Cortese, but not the coach, Pochettino," Betancourt said.

Pochettino refrained from commenting on Betancourt's comments and put down his reason not to play Ramirez as being solely based on footballing reasons.

"I don't want to speak publicly about individual players," Pochettino said of Ramirez's absence. "I don't think that's fair.

"I just make decisions on what is the best thing for the club, the team. I just make decisions based on training and sports factors."

Ramirez would become the 11th foreign player to join the current Galatasaray squad should he join the club.

The Lions would have to part ways with at least one non-Turkish player to accommodate the 22-year-old to meet the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) new guidelines restricting every club in the league to a maximum of 10 foreign players.

Yeah, I still think he'll probably stay, but this seems much more likely than him going back to Italy.

no thanks. Couldn't abide Drogba and his diving and theatrics. Where's the pen though for Ramirez :) We might nearly get our money back

It saddens me to see everyone so eager to get rid of Ramirez.:emoticon-0101-sadsm

Yes, I realize he hasn't been that great for us. And no, I'm not sure he fits into the team's plans going forward.

But the season is young, he could still come good. And it seems like much of this is being predicated upon that quote from his agent. We don't know if Ramirez actually feels that way or if his agent is just trying to drum up interest and see what might be out there. It's also quite possible that Ramirez and Pochettino can hash things out.

It saddens me how happy many would be to see the back of Ramirez. He's still only 22 and has so much potential. He only needs to tighten up his play a little bit and he'd be a wonderful player. I don't think it says anything positive about us if we can't get some use out of him.

Still think gaston should be given until the transfer window, or even summer, to prove himself. I think a couple of good sub performances could make people stop wanting to sell him.

I think we should get Mata instead and then we would be pushing the top teams. Wasted under Mourinho.

I can dream! Mind you I never thought our defence would be so leak tight even with the addition of Lovren et al.

Not wishing him gone, but I'd be very surprised if he's still here after the transfer window. He needs to get games under his belt to be considered for international call up.

Admittedly he was held back by a serious injury last season, but he has failed to impress two managers. He is a skilful player, but just doesn't fit for some reason. It may be he isn't energetic enough for Mauricio's style or he can't get past players who suit us better. I wanted him to fit so much, but for his own sake he probably needs to move on. :(

It's a strange one. Has to be about energy surely? We're such a well oiled machine, we can't afford one cog not to be working properly. Not sure if I agree PTF, he's quality, but good players don't always succeed at good clubs. The only thing it reflects is that he doesn't fit the so far successful system that we play. Don't get me wrong, I want him to succeed, and I think your exactly right about him just tightening up his game.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him go though at this rate, poss in Jan, and wouldn't be surprised if we replaced him with Banega.

Rabbit would say the rest of the team should be sold because they aren't good enough to envisage where Ramirez is going to pass to.

I'm not 'eager' to see the back of him in a 'Delgado' kind of way. Just that he isn't going to get those 'sub performances' as he obviously doesn't fit into Pochettino's plans. I am definitely a Guly fan but even I would say that for Guly to be ahead of a 75% fit Ramirez tells us something.

So it's not hurrah get rid of him. Its a case of let him go, take the money, get him off the wage bill and replace with someone Pochettino does think fits.

No room for sentiment as people keep on saying r.e. Lambert or Lallana when they are off form. Ramirez has never been on form so lets cut our losses rather than keep on saying he has potential give him time.

It is better for us and Ramirez if we go our seperate ways as we are wasting each other's time while he is here and not playing.

I like Guly too, but the fact that he is getting on for ten minutes at the end of games instead of Ramirez doesn't say much to be honest. De Ridder got plenty of those kinds of appearances last season and it clearly wasn't because he was considered important to the team.

I think most on here would like him to have a run in the team, but where? JWP should play on the right as his delivery is good, I counted 6 corners against Fulham that were a goal threat, his covering also allows Clyne and Victor freedom to roam. Lallana is probably playing some of his best football and is now playing more in the centere. JRod could be replaced but Ramirez gets isolated more than JRod so left side is no option for me. Upfront its a toss up between Rickie and Danni with Rickie in first place for me. Maybe MP is pushing him too hard, but thats how we play. He has quality but does he have the desire. We all saw Berba´s shoulders drop after 20 minutes when things were not going his way. MP needs a team of grafters who will run themselves into the ground for the club and I´m not sure Ramirez is that type of person.

You're falling into the common trap of the "best 11". Fringe players like Ramirez will get opportunities at some point. It only takes one injury and he's potentially back in the starting lineup.
