Its that time of year again, our first round of the FA Cup. This year we travel to Gainsborough who we haven't played since (i think) the middle of the last century. Town have had a mixed start to the season and consistency is the keyword bandied around, the last two games a have seen a great win and an awful loss. It seems that funding in the summer prior to Lewis, Goldson and Woods being sold was tight and we made signings accordingly, since then we have had more funds and have been able to bring in some higher quality but unfit players. January will bring more changes to the squad, so keep on supporting the team and manager until later in the spring at least seems to be the message! First though we need to get past the banana skin of Gainsborough, regular away fans know and can still feel the pain of Blyth Spartans etc! Gainsborough are seeing it as a massive game and have been calling it David vs Goliath match, their squad will be fully motivated and according to Dom Smith in the Shropshire star they will be a direct team with tall players up front. Town are missing NKP through suspension and Kaikai through injury. Caton, after a brilliant sub on on the reserve game has gone out on loan despite 'no more ins and outs'. Cole, JG, Halstead and Vernon are also back available. I doubt that we will see Vernon though, but it'd be nice to give him an opportunity. Let's hope for a great win. Stick your predictions and thoughts below. Come on you Blues, and breathe on 'em Salop http://www.shrewsburytown.com/news/...sborough-trinity-emirates-fa-cup-2788638.aspx http://www.skysports.com/football/gainsborough-vs-shrewsbury/352012 http://www.shropshirelive.com/2015/...to-play-them-so-who-are-gainsborough-trinity/
This will be a physical and direct game so I would go for experience and physical presence playing 4-3-3 with this team: Leutwiler Defence: Tootle Grandison Whitbread Brown Midfield: Ogogo Black Lawrence Forwards: Collins Barnett Akpa-Akpro I hope Gainsborough do not take a lead from Salford who played Notts County off the pitch last night. The state of the pitch might also be a big factor if they are having as much rain as we are here in Leicestershire. Unfortunately I cannot make it now it is moved to Sunday but I will be listening to the live commentary on Radio 5. With the League season being such a struggle at the moment we desperately need to be in the second round (hopefully with a long overdue home draw). I remember that awful afternoon against Staines with the season going downhill sharply after that and this season could also have the potential to do that if we are beaten tomorrow. Come on You Blues! (I predict 2-0 to Town)
Interesting to see how MM took the opportunity to give game time to some of the fringe players. It did not sound particularly exciting from the Radio 5 commentary but it was a professional performance to avoid the possible banana skin when some League 1 teams (Barnsley and Crewe) did not. KDS - who was Man of the Match (would you give it to Colllins???)
Interesting that Vernon got on to the pitch, is this the start of something beautiful between MM and SV?
Thankfully we have got past the initial first round and can look forward to Whitehawk or Altrincham away

No improvement on a Shropshire Star report this one. It implies that NKP was left out instead of not being available through suspension. Where did they get the idea that Vernon came on with 15 minutes left?
It would be great to have it, however with it being Grimsby, our luck on televised games and our current form then it might be painful to watch. I'm still scarred by the Bury game a good few years back.
Confirmed as live on BT Sport 2 on the Monday night (at least we will be in the draw for the third round if only for a couple of hours). Do you mean the Bury play-off game Matster?
