Article in The News today Gabor Gyepes has had enough of using Skype on a regular basis. He wants his young family back with him â and is prepared to quit Pompey to achieve it. The 31-year-old has made 18 appearances since joining the Blues as a free agent back in September. Yet during that time his wife and two children â aged three and six months â have remained in their native Budapest. Restricted to a month-by-month contract due to the clubâs on-going administration, Gyepes is loath to uproot his family for a job lacking security. Instead he shares a club house in Eastleigh with Simon Eastwood, Mustapha Dumbuya and Lubomir Michalik. The former Cardiff defenderâs latest contract is up on January 5 â and he is one of 18 Pompey players whose existing deals expire during next monthâs transfer window. His impressive form since landing at Fratton Park ensures he is one of the most likely to attract offers to leave the club. Gyepes insists his desire would be to remain on the south coast on a long-term contract, a scenario which would allow his family to move back to England. Considering Pompeyâs ownership has still not been settled, he knows he will be disappointed in under three weeks. And the Hungarian admits it is time his family came before football. He said: âSometimes people think we play football and it is the best thing in the world â but there is the other side. âWe are still human â as they are. We have family â as they have. âMy family are back in Hungary and I miss them a lot. I have two kids and it is really hard to live without them. âThat is the reason why I want to sign a permanent deal. I donât want to do this any more. âI want stability and I want to play for a club that is stable. I just want to live a normal life and not without my family. âWhen I moved to (previous club) Cardiff, my wife moved to England and we have always been together for the last four-and-a-half years, having two children. âWe moved back (to Hungary) after I trained with Portsmouth last season and couldnât sign because of the administration. Now I live here with my team-mates in a club house. Itâs like college. âItâs funny but I am the only player in the house with family, I am the oldest and itâs hard. I try not to think about it too much but you cannot avoid it because they are part of my life. âI go on Skype but it is not the same. âI want to be there with them, be part of them growing up and at the moment it is not possible. I want to change that. âIt is really hard when my daughter asks me when we can meet. âI have to think about my future. They are the most important thing in my life and I want to be with them. âThere is no reason to stay where I can only sign a month-to-month contract. âI want to stay here because I am happy here but there is more to my life.â Gyepes has already been linked with a move to Brighton next month. And he is ready to listen to whatever long-term offers come his way. He added: âLast season I played only two games and disappeared from the football map. âNow I came back and I believe I am stuck on it again. *************************************************************** Boy oh boy, wont we miss him if he goes - just beginning to produce a good solid partnership in centre of defence with Ricardo Rocha Can't really blame him though, he must really miss his family. Could this lead to a return to PFC for Josh Thompson ? He is due back from his Colchester loan end of December.
What a shame that would be. He was forming a very good partnership with Ricardo in the centre of defense. Hopefully this is all just paper talk- and he'll stay at Pompey for the time being!
Quite frankly, I'll be surprised if we keep hold of any of the current players - except Ricardo Rocha. So far the only consolation is that only Buzaky has torn up his contract and become a free agent again. Because the buyout hasn't happened yet they all have to think of their own futures - Pompey is still in a precarious position and they can't be sure things will work out for the best. Plus so many scouts have been sniffing around. Izale McLeod is one of the leagues top scorers - you can bet that someone will be coming in for him. In many ways we should think about who we will keep. For me that's Ricardo Rocha and Scott Allan (who has signed apparently until Jan 29th) and possibly Simon Eastwood and Phil Jones.
I remember when he was first signed - Appleton was talking to his parents and warning them that he would have a dip in form before Christmas before he started improving again. We tend to forget that he was just a part time player over in Gibralter.
Even if he isn't playing at 100%, he's still way better than the rest of our midfield. As soon as he comes on he makes stuff happen. It's clear to see that he was brought up in Spanish footie. He always seems a lot more aware of whats around him than everyone else, and he posses a trait that even some England international's can't grasp. He looks up.
