Ok, Ok.. I know he had a great World Cup.. BUT..

Am I the only one who didn't see the spark from Medel last season? The paper says: Medel had a good enough first season with the Welsh side to attract interest from around Europe but his performances could not help the club avoid relegation.

Does anyone else agree that his performances in the PL were below 'good enough'?

Excellent first half season, probably our most important player.

Not the same player after the Mckay debacle (same as Taylor, KTC, Caulker etc.) Only my opinion of course, but I think they were 'Malky's' players, who quite simply didn't like the way he was treated. It was almost as though they were prepared to run through brick walls for Malky, but not willing to put the same effort in for Tan.....my apologies for raking this up again, but I honestly think the players attitude changed....and it was most evident in Medel.

I never once saw the "Pit Bull" for the money paid very disappointing.

Looked like a 40 ***s a day bloke regularly subbed after 65/70 minutes. But clearly more a cb not midfielder so played out of position.

There again, Tan appears to be very good at waste management.

Fitness requirements for CB and CM are very different things, but he shouldn't have been struggling to last a match all season.

I think Whiffle may have a point about loyalty, but I think the change to a more attacking (haphazard at times) style exposed a few too.

I doubt loyalty came into it - players generally play for themselves, not other people. Very few will drop the level of their play because of it, and I doubt Medel would fall into that category.

He was a poodle, who just gave up.

Had one eye on the World Cup and apart from a superb display versus Swansea at home, he was lame for the rest of the season.

agree with ninian. he was a flop by the end of the season, that may sound harsh but he cost £11m we are led to believe.

the inter offer is a non starter, and a piss take if the truth be told. £7m is the lowest we should take, maybe less, say £6m if it goes to deadline day to get him out.

the shame is that as there isn't a world cup next summer, his performances will be better than last season when he was making sure he didnt pick up any injury for the summer WC, so he could be a good signing for another club.

started off well, but faded as the season went on. I think he has the potential to be a great player as seen in the world cup, he just needs to play like that week in week out. It's a shame we never got to see the best of him.

I disagree with most on this. I thought he ran himself into the ground and probably faded as a result. He rarely lost the ball, and while he did make some crucial mistakes, I think the opinions here are harsh in the extreme.

Must admit GLAM that I do share your sentiments in part. I thought he was a real asset and gave everything for the cause. Nobody can deny he made some ghastly errors on the ball making some suicide passes in defence, but that was nothing to do with his comittment.

He did seem to run out of steam later in the season, but to no greater extent than Kimbo or Mutch who both looked out on their feet on times, whilst Whitts hardly broke sweat.

Good player who would go a bundle in the Championship - shame is we wont be witnessing that prospect - he'll be long gone before we get started.

Only saw him a handful of times but I think he is a quailty player. He does most of his stuff effectively with no nonsence. The El Pitbull tag was given in another league and he probably found the PL relatively tame. Every player makes mistakes, his problem was he cost 11 million and should have produced the goods. The price tag wasn't his fault Mad Moody and Mackay were like winners of supermarket dash or some such **** TV programme.

Clearly more a cb? On what basis?

Plays CB for Chile as part of a three in a specific formation; every club manager has played him as a DM/MC. Unless they are all wrong about him...

Reads the game well, but playing at CB as part of a back four in the Prem, we'd have been even more exposed than we were imo.

i think he has it in him to be a very effective anchor in a 5 man midfield for a top team, but for us he didnt justify the money over the course of the season. for just £6m more spurs got a full brazilian international (perhaps a bad time to be saying that <laugh>), so he must be judged against a higher standard.

as with all foreign players, they are passing through the club and he'll be forgotten in a month or two.
