To round out the neighbourhood, is this Griffin Park (Brentford F.C.)?

Clifden Road and Football Ground, Brentford, 1921
    Place name: Brentford
    Administrative area: Hounslow

    Griffin Park (2011):-

It is known for being the only English league football ground to have a pub on each corner, and is situated in a predominantly residential area.

Brilliant stuff, thanks to you both.

Does any one know what was made in that factory on South Africa Road?

Amazing looking at the way we were. I remember being taken to Stamford Bridge by my dad as a kid...<yikes>

It's ok, we went regularly on Saturday nights, greyhound racing...

Roller. I think it was an exhibition hall left over from the great exhibition.

Can anyone confirm the Brentford (Griffin Park) location as it is rather distant in the photo, but if you look at the recent photo some of the houses behind the ground almost seem the same based on the window placements, plus they are lined up with pitch correctly?

So there used to be dog racing at Stamford Bridge ("who let the dogs out"!), also at White City I believe. My Dad used to tell me about that. Really interesting for me to see how Loftus Road looked in 1928 - my Dad was born in 1916 (Bradiston Rd), so he was 12, and went to all the home games with his Dad. He was an only child - I remember him telling me that they would go to the pub for lunch together (later in 1930's not at 12 I guess!), then to the game, then home to take Mum out for dinner, then maybe a catch a music show at the Hippodrome? - I recall him talking about Harry Champion, in his 80's with carrot dyed hair, belting out "any old iron".

In the Craven Cottage photos, what are the objects in the field below the ground? People? Animals grazing?

Good snippet there Kilburn. Your association with the R's goes pretty much all the way back to the beginning.

Love the Cottage in the corner of the ground at Fulham...now there is a sense of history

Ditto. I can see now why they didn't build a new ground and decided to re-develop CC instead. Its one of the most historical Grounds in the Country.

Still, I prefer where we're headed right now. A new Stadium in the future will be fantastic.
