Was talking tonight with a guy at a bar who was an assessor for the DOfE. I threw a comment in to the mix that due to the digital revolution in teaching and with the advent of Teams etc.. we could eventually replace expensive UK teaching resource with cheaper foreign teachers. Or even one day AI as it will be able to do the same job and will be cheaper and of course won’t strike or take half the year off and still paint their placards up. Could AI be a reality one day in teaching?
They will also be able to deliver on Rishi’s maths targets as it looks like it’s a tough ask with current resource.
Interesting theory. I'm sure it will at some point, it's more a matter of how soon? What did the DOfE assessor say?
he says that they constantly monitor other reference states and use their data for their modelling. He seemed to think for now face to face teaching still has a place but acknowledged that long term it won’t. He had a balanced view really. my thinking is that AI won’t take loads of time off and then go on strike to get more. Like automation in factories really.
I think it's something that will undoubtedly be phased in. Remote teaching was proven to be possible during lockdowns and that was in an unplanned scenario. I'd be very surprised if in the next 10-15 years there's not quite a shift.
It will certainly be an easier way to encourage kids to learn, than via traditional teaching methods. In some countrues, kids are already spending as much (if not more) time as avatars in the bloody metaverse than in the 'real world'. So to find some way to link that to true education (in the schooling sense) makes sense. It's how they WANT to spend their time, so might as well use it as an opportunity to enhance education at the same time. One day, it will be like the Matrix, with instant plug-in uploads. But for now, I think teachers at least need to be tech savvy and understand what's coming down the line if we want to ensure kids are engaged in learning.
Can you please clarify for Trev, is that Dubai Middle East (4 hours ahead), or the Dubai Takeaway, Watford?
What does a Duke of Edinburgh assessor know about education? Or do you mean Dfe? You mention strikes, is that in the same strike day as the Dfe are also striking? Asking for @haslam
It's not my union tbh, I'm in work that day. As for the overall premise of the thread, I was choosing not to respond really as I've actually met children.
