    Any Welsh speakers on here?

Are there any funny translations like poptiping, or whatever microwave is.

Is an ironing board a board smoothio, or is someone pulling my leg.

I know many fluent welsh speakers who corrupt both english and welsh into a pigeon form of both. My friend is a bank manager and she frequently uses the term double-checko. Then she'll telephone me with a bit of gossip and begin her preamble with the phrase, guesso beth?

One of the funniest examples I heard was at my doctor's surgery - baby sitto!!! You couldn't make it up. I only have a scanty knowledge of welsh but most of my friends use it as their first language and, without exception, they always lapse into a mixture of both languages. It amuses me no end and I'm always telling them, look, if you must speak druid then do it properly.

Me gullible does occasional match threads for us. He has a mate called Tarquin, drinks at a pub called the Yak and Yeti in the Himalayas and had his arm cut off but it grew back again. He is seen as one of the more sensible posters on this board so that should give you a guide as to the general standard on here :D

This isn't directly relevant but in 1981 I had the good fortune (or misfortune, I'm never sure which) of working in Baghdad for 3 months. This was when Saddam was in power and the Iraqis were fighting the Iranians. But anyway, many signs and restaurant menus were in Arabic and English and there were some cracking mis-spellings to the English. The two I remember most were the 'Sand and Grovel Contractor' and the restaurant which had 'Lintel Soup' as a starter.

Also, there is no letter equivalent to 'P' in Arabic so the nearest you can get is a 'B'. Most government buildings had a 'No Barking' sign outside.

It is basically referring to the wall surrounding the seaside town as 'the fortress of fishes' <ok>
