So on the back of a great weekend for us, got me thinking about how unpredictable this year is turning out.

United bring in a so called world class manager, have the biggest spend ever in a window and are still mid table and struggling
Liverpool bought most of Southampton's good players and currently lie 9 places below them, Southampton many tipped to struggle are in 2nd!
Spurs took Southampton's manager and lie 10 places below them
City all but out of the C.L again and inconsistent so far in the league sees them 8 points off the top
11 games in and realistically only a 2 horse race despite the pre season promise of 5-6 teams looking capable of keeping it interesting. Wenger's already conceded the title. BRod sensible enough to not even mention it.
Chelsea 9 wins from 11, 29 points accumulated despite pretty much a nil net spend over the last 2 windows and having played 4 of the hardest away fixtures already. Some of the best business in recent memory from Jose and the board.

    Long may it continue....

Jose has spent as much and he has managed in this league before and knows the team so
    2013/2014 4th 21 points after 11 games
    2014/2015 1st 29 points after 11 games
So if Jose is so called world class why did he not win anything last season?

So why should LVG in his first season be where Chelsea are now? In a league he has never managed in and has to fix the damage Moyes left. Oh yeah its called rebuilding lol<ok>

I think we should have won the league last year, our performances against the top sides show that. However the boards failure to land a top class striker / persistence with Torres was what ultimately cost us. Small margin and not one I blame Jose for. He still made a C.L semi final which shows how good he is.

Most of Jose's buys have been funded by sales. And as opposed to say United and Arsenal, he bought players to fill weaknesses in the squad, not because they are well known and appease the fans.

Koeman hasn't managed in the P.L before, had most of his first team sold and still lies 2nd, much higher than United having spent a fraction of what LVG has. What's LVG's excuse again?!?!?

Jose would be challenging with United's 2013/14 squad plus £150m and unlimited wages on offer, no excuses.

Why??? he is a better manager than LVG. United are falling away.

In fact, Jose's first season was better in a way than this one. Strong title challenge, 80 odd points and strong CL campaign too, with Torres up front too!

If Jose had Falcao, Roon and RVP up front at United, do you really think he would be tenth...

Nah, it was the red nosed Scottish drunks mess. Moyes just realised it was hopeless either way you still need another £100 million to compete with us.

The two players who have transformed Chelsea are Fabregas and Costa. Courtois is a revelation, but perhaps Cech would be virtually line ball, so I'm not counting Courtois as a transformer. The point being, Man Utd may also be just a player or two away from being a great side. A midfielder like Pogba or Reus and a Centre back like ????? and they are in the thick of things again. Van Gaal can"t sort everything in half a season, but by this time next year, I fear the buggers will be back in the running. It's City who look vulnerable to me. The old saying, when it's bad on the field, it's bad off the field, might be true at City.

Corrected. Fergie jumped ship because he knew he had to rebuild that team from the bottom up.

I think Chelsea fans have a soft spot for United, you want us back in the Champions League so we can dominate in Europe together, admit it<laugh>

In fairness, you DO seem to be the only other club who try to win in the CL.
Arsenal and City just make up the numbers.

I agree totally. I think he decided that it was going to be a big job and that he had done his bit. I am just commenting on the United fans' blindness to that fact piling the blame on Moyes for what happened with a side on it's last legs.

I agree it's not all Moyes' fault. Moyes was still rubbish but that United team that won the title in Fergie's last year was dragged through by Fergie's management and a wonder season from RVP. To many ageing players and a bad batch of youngsters to replace them like Cleverley, Zaha and Smalling etc.

Was always going to be a significant rebuild as Fergie had not bought well in the previous seasons (an ageing and injury prone RVP aside) and therefore had not laid the foundations for a new team.

    Aye.
SAF probably thought it was too much of a rebuilding job to start at his age.
It shouldn't all be placed on his shoulders either, presumably he gave the board advance notice of his intent to retire, they should have prepared better.
Moyes signed 2 players ffs, Fellaini (in the summer) and Mata (in jan).

Both were great players for Everton and Chelsea respectively, and while I think he was out of his depth somewhat, it doesnt seem fair that the Glazers let him sign 2 players, then sack him, and LvG gets a ****ing HUGE warchest and has performed just as bad if not worse than Moyes and is given a pass because they are in transition from big bad Moyes season of woe! <laugh>

This is the bit that gets me - the sheer amount of cash LvG spent was galling at the time. Now it's hilarious; even funnier is that he and Koeman basically hate each other and look what Koeman has done with our team - one that needed as much rebuilding over the Summer as ManU did.

Let's hope that this topsy turvey season continues with the likes of Liverpool, Spurs and Arsenal remaining well outside the Top 6 and United fail to get to the Top 4.
