Anybody know if there's going to be a silence or anything at Saturday's match?

I'd imagine we'll do a minutes applause on the minute of his squad number as well as before kick off - 32 if I remember correctly.

I hate applause for this type of thing - how many people applauded the remembrance day stuff?- it should be a minute to reflect on the times he played for us in silence - not a minute applauding. Annoys the hell out of me! I won't be applauding - I will be standing in silence before the game for exactly this reason - it won;t be a "lack of respect" but exactly the opposite if anyone sees me

Could look at it another way mate - celebrating the life & career of by all accounts a true professional and a successful man who was taken from his nearest & dearest far far too early.

I can;t mate - my Granda and my Dad took me to the matches for years - NEVER at roker park was there a Minute's applause after an ex-player died - not once - and I went from 1982 until it closed and missed less than 20 games in all of that time! To me a minute's applause is a way of copping out in case some dickhead ruins it. To me, if someone ruins it they should be ejected from the stadium.

Like I said - just an opinion but I will reflect in silence rather than applause - it's how I have always done it for an ex-player who has passed away

Fair enough - I'm too young for that (never actually went to Roker Park unfortunately) and the minute applause has become more and more frequent instead of silence.

People will have their own preferences and opinions - suppose it might be case of what would Marton want?

It could be aurgued both ways this one, but we do seem to be having a lot more of them these days and maybe by doing so we are lessoning their impact. For me the observation of one minutes silence should be for rememberance Sundays etc., the one minute of applause is fine for remembering departed players, even though in this case it is particularly sad, him being so young.

Im my eyes. You clap someone when they are alive. You cant reflect while doing that.

    Silence gives you that moment.

That's fine and I completely understand where you're coming from.

My memories of Marton Fulop will most definitely be positive ones whether I'm being silent for a minute or applauding for a minute.

It's just cultural differences. I'm sure we 'inherited' the moments applause from the Italians who see that as a mark of respect.

It's done differently over there though, they start with silence and then slowly build the applause throughout the minute until it peaks. I think it's much more warmer and friendly that way.
