Scotland is going to sign a new deal and we have made a firm enquiry to Stoke for Ricardo Fuller. Thoughts? http://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/ipswich...eal_and_ricardo_fuller_could_follow_1_1421413
Another striker past his prime, not the kind of player Jewell promised he would buy. When he was on loan with us before he did not pull any trees up, and to me he is a very average striker, so no, would not be a good buy in my opinion.
Very Average! Is that why the overwhelming majority of Stoke fans are livid that he hasn't been offered a new contract! Fuller is a quality striker and still has a great deal to offer.
Totally agree JWM, he is a clever striker who will offer us something different. Also PJ has signed two promising youngsters so far. We don't want to sign just youngsters with potential, or just old veterans. Its all about a mix!
Fuller could be a good signing but Im more concerned with our lack of signings where we need them most, central defence and a right back. We scored more goals than Blackpool last season so they finish in 5th place and get to the play off final and we finish 15th! Is it me or can anyone else see the blindingly bloody obvious. Our goals against column last season was absolutely appalling and will be again unless some quality defenders are brought in, so come on PJ make a start for christs sake or get the hell out of our club and let us get someone in who will. July is just a few days away there really isnt any time to lose.
Spot on FM but all the same Fuller will be a handy signing! Perhaps Jewell's master plan for next season will be if they score 4 we'll score 5!
Fieldmarshall Agree 100%, this is a fecking joke, oi Jewell/Clegg/Evans sign some fecking defenders and a goalkeeper you clowns!!
JWM and Spanish, I have no beef with Fuller he could turn out to be a great signing if it comes off and theres always a place for quality strikers, we dont need any more midfielders in fact if Carlos Edwards was to resume his best position youd say our M/F looks good. But if we dont replace most of the defence we could be in serious trouble next season and lets face it we havent got to drop a lot further to be in the smelly stuff.
" and to me he is a very average striker, so no, would not be a good buy in my opinion. " Name me 3 BETTER players we could sign for a decent price/deal/wage? I'd love Fuller to sign. Agree with other posts, would like to see us linked with defenders!
That he is a quality player is certainly one way of looking at it. But I wouldn't sign him. I very much doubt we will sign the 7-8 players we would need to mount a promotion challenge so I think we should only be signing players who can do a job for us in two, three, four years' time. Otherwise we just continue treading water.
" I very much doubt we will sign the 7-8 players we would need to mount a promotion challenge so I think we should only be signing players who can do a job for us in two, three, four years' time. Otherwise we just continue treading water. " Surely aiming to sign a player based on what they can do in 2 / 3 / 4 years time is treading water until then....? How many players stay at clubs that length of time these days? If they turn out to be any good, they will be bought by higher up clubs than us. Very happy your not running the club, based on that method of selling the club to players literally no player would join us. Taking capable players like Fuller, who isn't washed up and is available on a free transfer would be a masterstroke. We will have money available to spend, however we really do not have too many players over 30 remaining at the club. We require a mixture of youth and experience to succeed. The last few years we've focused far too much on experience: time that changed! It's patently obvious we need a new goalkeeper. There's no secret there, so that's one / two players coming in. Smith and Delaney proved towards the end of the season the difference in having a settled defensive partnership. It makes one hell of a difference. While I'm NOT hugely convinced by either, Smith certainly has improved as the season has passed. Delaney again, I'm not sure about however he's certainly better than Darren O'Dea. That said, I agree we need one ( being nice ) if not two ( more realistic ) new centre backs At full back, Edwards and Cresswell both had solid seasons. Both have similar weaknesses, with Edwards getting caught out of position perhaps more. They require a more solid base from centre back and midfield to operate. I'm relatively happy with the rest of the side if we can add the right player at the right price. I'd happily go into the new season with Chopra/Fuller/Scotland and possibly Murray as forth choice. We could perhaps do with another wide man, depending on whether Josh Carson can sort his life out. Ps- if late times come up for the next two months when I write, it's because I'm in Michigan for the summer.
Westlake sometimes you can be a total knob. Its ****ing obvious that for years and years we've been signing good players at the end of their careers and you get nowhere. By contrast Cresswell might still be at the club in ten years' time! It's so blindingly obvious it's painful to listen to dimwits who want to perpetuate the ****ness I've been watching for five years now!
Unfortunately Hamps I think treading water will be the best we could hope for if we dont replace the entire defence ( Cresswell is the only exception ), otherwise we will be hard pushed to compete and stay in this division.
Whoever you scouts are or who does recruitment is bloody awful. You have a decent amount of money to spend and wages, you have everything you need to challenge the top of the table but he keep making no end of dud signings.
This may have something to do with a manager who is 10 years out of date A CEO who doesn't know what the **** he is doing, apart from getting snakes out of trees and painting the stadium And an owner, who realises that he's made a terrible mistake in buying a football club to make money (£6m a year loss on ave) We're a shambles, but at least we're not from Norfolk so we don't suck cock
