I've read a bit about us having no recognised full-backs in our squad. Call me optimistic but from what I've seen of Roberge (Youtube!) he can be an outstanding LB, in the mould of Jan Vertonghen. Just like JV, he looks a top CB but I wouldn't be surprised or worried if he was our main LB.

Secondly, are people forgetting that only a few years ago Wes Brown was doing an excellent job at RB for both Man U and England?! I know his best days seem to be gone but to say he could do an adequate job there for us is surely an understatement.

Roberge also looks great on the ball. Could be an excellent addition. Don't you lie to me now, YouTube!

I agree with Roberge doing a good job at LB. OShea can also fill in on both sides but unfortunately like Brown their legs are older now and I cant see them doing a job anymore, like OSheas already proved at RB where hes played a few games for us before in the past!

I'm pretty certain that Roberge will be a back-up

If he was really good I imagine he'd have ended up at a top Portuguese club

We will still get in a proper LB and RB before the season starts and this lad Peruzzi could well still come off yet. Very mixed messages and stories on this and I will still wait for the lad to be announced personally?

LB? Who knows. Maybe we can steal the lad Cissoko from under the bin dippers noses (or tashes)

There is lots of time yet, Brown will not be playing full back for us he just does not have the pace anymore.

I've seen footage of Cissokoh and the above video of Roberge and I can say without hesitation I prefer Roberge already! Classy player.

Note my comment. Brown and OShea havent got the legs to bomb up and down the pitch anymore. The same goes with Cuellar who spent most his time as a right back at Villa!

Yeah and if you could read his lips he told Hulk to "get down the gym" just as he sat him down.

    He's my new favourite...

Roberge is one the signings im personally most excited about tbh, we need more CBs who are young and versatile, don't get my wrong, i love O'Shea and Brown, but we wont have too much time with them in the future

Not trying to rubbish any opinions but we don't want 'stand ins' we need dedicated full backs or whatever positions to compete in this league. Colback can do a job at LB or RB but he's just a fill in and will be found wanting when we face the top teams, I can't see PDC wearing that and i'm sure plans are in place to fill in the blanks.

that's just the thing. Roberge wouldn't be a stand in, he looks very accomplished on the left. Only issue is I'd like to pick him at CB.

To the OP, stand in full backs do not work. You only have to look in the last 7 seasons to see that.

All of the above players mentioned simply "do a job" in that position and dont fully offer what an actual fullback can.

You only have to compare say Baines to Roberge/Colback and theres your difference in having an actual fullback to a man who does a job for the odd game.
