and to think i used to mock the Reading support last season, they have about 10 less. Always said that it doesn't matter if you get 25K home support if you only take 100 away?
Leeds always take large numbers away and you cannot knock your away support but that was a pathetic turn out by Fulham. As i said before i would rather get 13K home gates and take 1500-2000 away then get 25K at home and take 100-200 away as it really tells you what the club is like.
I agree, IMO you should never judge a team's support by their home following, only away. No disrespect to Fulham but the only difference between them and Wigan is that Fulham are in an exotic part of London right on the Thames so you can obviously attract dozens of tourists and day trippers for each game. I feel sorry for the 100-200 that travel all that way, only to be sat next to a guy slating individual players etc the following week in a crowd of 25k.
The allocation was taken up (1500 or thereabouts) but I think we could have comfortably taken 2000 though the club didn't want to risk committing to a higher allocation and having to pay the excess. Our away attendances have been a bit strange in my opinion in that we took 1800 or so to Everton which for me was massive as our first away game back in the top flight at a proper ground and city and then we took similar to numbers to Wigan for a 12.30 kick-off in a **** new stadium in a **** town. Over the years, our away following as a percentage of home following has always been pretty good.
Henley Regatta is over, and there aren't many hunt balls nowadays, so all I can think is most spent the weekend in the country at a point to point or gymkhana. One has to exercise one's horse sometime...
Leeds are in the middle of the country. They never have to do a really long track. Fulham are a boring away team. So are Sunderland. The fans probably knew it would be 0-0. And Christmas is coming up, so a lot of fans have to go shopping with their family. And the flu season is in full swing. I can't say I can blame them for not going.
