To really see how our side has progessed from last year.

The first two games of the season so far were games that we were never likely to really control - one being against a team that likes to control the football, and another being a derby where it's mainly just tackle after tackle. Carling Cup games are hardly a great time to judge either, when against much weaker opposition.

Fulham are notoriously terrible away from home, and it's a game that we're likely to look to dominate. From this we can really see our team's credentials, and get a proper judgement for the season. Someone like Cabaye will be looking to shine for the first time (not that he hasn't done well so far, just hasn't had a chance to get his passing/attacking game going).

    Looking forward to it.

I look forward to it too. It was games like this, particularly at home, that we threw a lot of points away last season and had to rely on beating better sides, weirdly. Teams that get into the Europa have to be beating bottom half sides (no offence to Fulham, since they actually finished top half?), so lets see if we're one of those sides.

    This, or they'll nick a 0-1 win.

We always balls up after getting an unexpected result .

If we have the same squad then it'll be a 0-0 draw (unless we get a penalty or a free-kick in a good position). Still can't see Fulham scoring past our defence. If he have a good striker then we'll win

This won't be an easy game. Fulham might not attack much, but they're a solid unit at the back and we'll need to work hard to create chances against them. Hopefully a new striker is here by then. Can't see it being more than a 1-0 win, with 0-0 or 1-1 likely. I assume Best will play v Scunthorpe, so if he has a good game he'll put himself into contention.

Well if Wolves are 2-0 up on them then i'm fairly optimistic. They've got a great team, Fulham, but they always seem to play ****e away from home. Hopefully we won't balls up against the teams we should be beating as much as we did last season!

Europa game midweek will tire them as well. Could be a good time to play them if they're coming off the back of a defeat from Wolves as well <ok>

Zamora has an ankle knock aswell. I think we will scrape a win if a LB and Striker is made.

They are losing 2-0 to wolves away ATM and Wolves aren't amazing by all standards - would say Sunderland are better than Wolves

I remember last season being optimistic when we beat Villa 6-0, then predicting an easy win against Blackpool next game at home and we ended up losing 2-0 :(.

Fulham are one of our bogey teams who we normally play ****e against, we really should be looking to win this. I agree with the comment on Cabaye think if he has a good game we will win. Hopefully Marveaux will be unleashed too.

Lets hope we don't do what we usually don't and lose an easier game than the last

The two games with them last year were horrific, a 0-0 and a 0-1 and the two most boring performances of the season. Hoping for a win, last year we won against much stronger opposition whilst losing to weaker teams, we have to start winning these "winnable" games, they could turn out to be six-pointers for something come the end of the season.

All it would take would be a couple of wins on the bounce and the arseholes on tv would start saying we think we are gunna win the league

All it would take is a couple of wins on the bounce for Richard Keys (if the smug, sarcastic twat hadn't been sacked) to sit there smirking and say "the Geordies will be thinking they're going to win the league won't they?"
