Rumours over the pond are rife that John Henry is about to sell the Red Sox because FSG cant afford to run us and them, maybe they might have a change of heart and sell us instead. The owners of the Boston Red Sox are mulling a potential sale of the storied baseball franchise, and have even begun quietly shopping the team to potential buyers, the FOX Business Network has learned. "The team is owned by the Fenway Sports Group, which also owns the English football team Liverpool FC. While no final decision has been made about a potential sale, and the talks appear to be in the early stages, executives at Fenway Sports are debating whether they have the financial resources to run both teams, according to people with direct knowledge of the matter."http://mlb.sbnation.com/2012/9/13/3326722/boston-red-sox-sale-selling-john-henry-liverpool

Looks promising enough, with their eyes only on us they can be better suited to run the club, not that they haven't been doing an OK job, but just more focus on what is going on and what is needed.
Hmm. I've seen the rumours, but I'm not sure what to make of this. John Henry loves his baseball, so I'd deem it unlikely - especially after the Clinton Dempsey gossip-transfer debacle. But, stranger things have occurred at sea. I'll stay perched on the fence, with splinters in my arse, and see what transpires.
This has come up on ESPN. This contradicts the report I read recently. That JWH has said Baseball is their passion 365 days of the year, they plan to spend money big time with the Boston Red Sox, whilst cutting costs and spending at Liverpool. I'm unsure which version of events is true. Hopefully, its this new report.
It's odd though. Boston Red Sox are more successful, earn more money and are in FSG's home country. Why would they sell them to keep us? Surely, from a business point of view it'd be easier to sell us?
Thats actually true. We're worth more now than what they paid for us 2 years ago. They could easily get £450-£500 million for us now.
I'd have thought it'd be easier to sell us as well. After all who's going to buy a baseball team? Only another billionaire American cause only Americans give a **** about Baseball. Who wants to buy a World recognised Football club playing in the worlds most watched league which generates huge amounts of money? Half the Billionaire population of the world who all want to own a football club. Not saying thats the right way to go, just that it'd surely be easier to sell us.
The American recession is deep, so business in England may be easier for them. They have also succeeded with the ambition of getting the Red Socks to where they need to be. Champions. Mission accomplished. Maybe they feel ready to move on and do the mission with us.
Think LFC has much more potential to be REALLY big than the Redsox, they will always be pulling in about the same money as they do now.Where if LFC started win league titles or getting close, they could become a billionaire club very quickly
I'm certainly not anti-FSG but... Dare I say that they can't take the Red Sox any further meaning they are at the peak are their value? Ie, they can't make any more money out of them by keeping them? With Liverpool, there is plenty of room for further improvement and, inevitably, the possibility of an increased value before looking to sell...? They are businessmen afterall
I saw somewhere where one of the spokemen for FSG have said the statements of them putting the Red Sox up for sale are false. I will try to find it again.
But if this is true then I think it is positive that they have chosen to keep us. If the money is strained and they choose to keep us, they clearly want to carry on there work and build to success. Even if its financial success, they will have to get us to the top of the league and the Champions League to achieve it, and do it in a sustainable way.
Thats where the rumours may be true. With the Red Sox the first port of call was to redevelop the stadium and increase revenue. They did that. The next step was to invest in the team, they did that. The next step was the World Series. What else is there left to do? Maybe JWH wants to replicate his success with the sox with Liverpool by adopting that 3 point plan?
