City manager could have striker back before the end of the season.... Steve Bruce has revealed that striker Matty Fryatt could play again before the end of the season. Fryatt had been expected to miss the whole campaign after having surgery to cure a persistent Achilles problem that plagued him during pre-season but with last seasonâs top scorer ahead of schedule in his recovery, a return to action before the end of the season has not been ruled out, although Bruce remains cautious. âThere is a possibility, but the one thing we wonât do with Matty is take any risks,â said Bruce. âAt this stage of his recovery, it looks as though he could be back ahead of schedule. If that is the case then great. âHe could be looking to join in (with training) in the next three to four weeks. But we will be governed on that by specialists, doctors, sports scientists, physios and all the rest of it to make sure of his wellbeing going forward. âHopefully he can play some kind of part, weâll keep our fingers crossed.â Fryatt hasnât played since the Capital One Cup first round victory against Rotherham United back in August. http://www.hullcityafc.net/news/article/bruce-on-fryatt-feb-2013-657434.aspx
That's good news. With Gedo here it takes some of the pressure off him to get back as quickly. If he's back in full training by the end of March, he could be vital to the end of the season.
It shouldn't have needed hindsight really. Once scans were inconclusive and he broke down the second time he should have been under the knife to at least explore what the problem was instead of messing about with injections when they already hadn't worked.
Could be a huge boost for March/April/May to have our top goal scorer from last season back. Bruce did suggests this in his Brighton interview. It sort of answers the emergency loan question too. Could work out getting a striker in now for 93 days and when they go back, we have a possibly fully fit Fryatt. Options options with Aluko, Gedo, Fryatt, Simpson, Prossy and (although I think it doesn't suit him) Koren. Things could be looking up.
Speaking as someone who had the same operation as Fryatt I wouldn't be surprised if he comes back twice the player he was last season. The reason is that when they repair the achilles tendon they usually remove the thin weak part and reconnect it to the thicker section above. This means the mended achilles is more than double it's previous thickness and strength and he will feel a lot more confident about putting heavy stress on it than he might have done last season.
Err.. You really don't want me on the pitch. I'll just stand around in my tracksuit and abuse the fourth official if that's ok.
You can do that from E3! Seriously though, the operation, it's really stronger after cutting some out and sewing it all back up?? Makes me shiver just thinking about it!
Literally every member of the first team squad has a maximum of 16 months left on their contracts, with the exception of Quinn and Proschwitz. I'd hoped that we'd start sealing some new contracts well before now to be honest.
IF and its a massive IF it will be good news. Even more reason to get Boyd into the club ASAP nevermind the play-off dates etc. With the league games Hull City have in April/May Fryatts return even off the bench will be most welcome to one and all.
