For once this has nothing to do with under performing on the pitch, which is a welcome change for Newcastle. This is to do with what could have been and what could still be.

This past six months has already seen Tiote being linked with the big boys, Ba being linked with Liverpool and others (cheers saggy-face), Cabaye being linked with Man Utd, Coloccini being linked with Liverpool and Krul being linked with Tottenham. Obviously we will not lose all these players, however there is a likelihood that we may lose one or two within the next two transfer windows. These are the following ages of these, arguably, top class players!

    Coloccini - 29
    Cabaye - 25
    Ba - 26
    Tiote - 25
    Krul - 23

Except for Coloccini that is a young set of players that can form a spine for many years at this football club. Add to that the players with potential to get to the level of the above named players and there ages...

    Santon - 21
    Ben Arfa - 24
    S.Taylor - 25

They are three more players that can give there best years to Newcastle United. On top of that Jonas is also a very good player, so for me we are just two players off a starting eleven that could put a nice gap between us and eighth onwards and can really help us push for Europe/Trophies.

Say we didn't sell anyone and were given £20 million to spend who would you buy? Personally I would go for this...

    Nathaniel Clyne - £2 million
    Erik Pieters - £5 million
    Harry Maguire - £3 million
    Olivier Giroud - £10 million

I don't know how much Giroud would cost, but it is just an example of what we could do and I couldn't think of another striker.

That would leave us with a fully fit match day squad of...

    Krul
    Santon Saylor Coloccini Pieters
    HBA Tiote Cabaye Gutierrez
    Ba Giroud

Subs - Harper, Williamson, Raylor, Guthrie, Marveaux, Obertan and Best

You would then have the likes of Clyne, Maguire, Simpson, Perch, Gosling, Vuckic, Abeid, Ameobi's and Lovenkrands as back-up.

In my opinion that is a pretty strong squad and for spending just £20 million without selling anyone, you could get a very decent, young team.

However, as I say, this is frustrating for us fans, because it is obvious how close we are to a very good team, but sadly it will never happen as Ashley would not spend £20 million without selling.

If you were given £20 million to spend on our squad who would you buy and why?

I'd buy Pipe4Life and give him the number 9. he's a lethal finisher (on mortal combat) has plenty pace(maker), plenty tricks (can juggle TWO balls, and do a round the world with a yo-yo). He also gets stuck in (to his dinner) plus he's a real game changer (on the xbox).

well i'm 28 so i'm at my peak, i know that i don't really fit with the clubs current transfer policy but i would be willing to sign a deal similar to Ba's as i have a bad back. they could sign me on a free. we'll call it a £19m signing on fee and i'm only asking for £500 a week. thats pittance in this day and age.

Giroud would cost realistically 3x what you've estimated him at, but I get what you're saying...

I'm ****e with names, and there's so many kicking about that I'll just name the positions...

    LB, CB, RM, ST

I want a LB would doesn't need Jonas to baby sit him, I want cover for CB, I want a wide player who can cross, I want a little player with pace (along the same lines as Aguero)

Yeah I couldn't think of anybody else. There will be someone out there. I want a back-up winger/starting winger as well and would go for either Barnetta or Hoilett in the summer.

I was very impressed with Santon at LB in the cup. The fact he was moving onto his right was allowing him to play balls to Jonas that a left footer may not have been able to play. Although you do lose something putting a right footer on the left things can also be gained.

I'm not to sure if we'd be better off leaving him at LB tbh, have to wait and see second half of the season how he does.

By that logic... I scored 5 in one 5 a side match recently, albeit just a kick about with mates, but each one is a human being, I assure you. Should Newcaslte be looking at me?

I'm only 20 as well, so I've got about a year on this joker your going on about.

read a piece the other day saying that because of our finances being good and the forecast break even we have less need to sell how true this is time will tell unless it's another mandy situation and tbh if we are offered stupid money for a player who wouldn't sell.

This was the plan right? Once your finances are in order you become less dependant on player sales to rebalance or plug gaps, the wages are all budgeted for over the next 3 - 5 years those who signed their contracts and all looks rosy from a business perspective .. with the team playing as they are it really has fallen neatly into place .. whether that be by sheer luck or not who knows ..

I think the board can now start to shed the 'lets sell to line our own pockets' tag as there really is no need anymore (tempting fate ..) .. unless, as you say, Comoli comes waving a massive wad of millions like he did last year ..

which once the fair play regs come in will be less likely unless a loophole is found or they have a huge global income like man u but then again they have to sort their debt out as well.
