OK nothing really new here but why consult Gerrard ? I thought that was half the problem with rafas last year everything alledgedly had to go through Stevie
Humm Good article. I'm all for the whole 'put Gerrard in his place, he's a player not a director' stance of things. But at the same time Gerrard probably does know his players. He is the captain as well. I'm remaining open minded about Henderson.
Despite it being the local paper, the echo prints just as much ****e as the nationals. Remember it is now owned by trinity mirror and is now printed in manchester(i think) although it's joke effort of a newsroom is still in the city centre.
b4f i know where your coming from but captain or not he shouldnt be consulted. do you think fergus asked roy keane about players
No I'm with you mate. That is half the problem. He has gotten too big for his boots. He needs to be told he is a player, not a shareholder. Give him a boot to get him motivated.
i think he was consulted because he has trained with him previously for England, so for me its common sense to say 'Stevie, do you think this lads got it?' to be honest id be a bit worried if they didnt ask. Stevie does just need to focus on the pitch though im expecting a big season from him this season.
I don't think Gerrard does get consulted that much to be honest; he's a Liverpool supporter - so he knows how important it is to let the Manager do his job and manage the team; I don't think he'd get in the way of that. On the point of Comolli asking him about Henderson; I think they he just asked him for a second opinion. No doubt they would have already made up their mind about him before and wanted to know more about his attitude - so they consulted someone who's trained with him before.
Gotta agree with you. I think by consult it would have been more like 'stevie we're getting this lad, what's he like during training and on the pitch from a PLAYER's point of view?' not 'Stevie do we have the greenlight?'. he is the team captain afterall and can't see anything wrong with him giving his opinion on transfers and what he thinks would work for the team, just to give Kk and comolli a bit more info to work with.
I think you're right. The managerial staff aren't consulting players on potential signings.I reckon what DC did was ask Stevie was ''Whats he like as a person? Now thats the Liverpool way.Geoff Twentyman Liverpools ex scout, used to do that with players,he would look into their backgrounds and find out what they were like as a person as well as their footballing ability.Phil Neal said this as Geoff Twentyman scouted him amongst others.
I agree with the last few posts. Consulting him should not be confused with asking his permission. There's nothing wrong with asking the club captain his opinion on a potential team-mate. The paper then probably makes more of it to fill column inches.
