Gus Poyet was feeling jubilant after his Sunderland side grounded out a much needed 3-1 win against Stoke at the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats came into this game lacking confidence with points hard to come by this season, but Poyet told BBC Sport how his players felt after the result.

"I love winning, I hate losing. It was incredible. It wasn't our best game but we were outstanding in front of goal. They are happy boys now. They want to be on the front page of the newspaper tomorrow."

It wasn't all plain sailing for Poyet and his men though and the Uruguayan was quick to point out that he hasn't always got it right this season.

"When I'm wrong I take responsibility. It's nice when it works. Something was missing - we were good but couldn't score. We started Fletch and it worked. I am sure we will play better but it's a good day."

That win ends a barren run on Wearside and Poyet is looking forward to the rest of the campaign now, with a new found confidence in the camp.

"Before today it was no wins. Now we have only lost one in seven. The start looks different, it looks more than decent. I don't remember the last time I was that calm at the end of a game."

Looks like he is on track to re-jig the team as predicted, he as some decent options at the moment and looks to be moulding a team together again, we really do seem to at last have a good manager in Gus. He is a football man no doubt, just to watch him at the end of a game he has genuine interest in both sets of players this is not common in management and sets him apart. I am sure the players will respond to this and our profile as a club will grow. Set backs are inevitable and our next batch of games will be a real test, but after yesterday I am a lot more confident that we can cope.

We just look so solid at the minute and even when playing badly we are incredibly difficult to break down and beat.

With Alvarez to come and Giacc returning to fitness the creativity levels will go up, and for Fletch & Conn to get off the mark prior to a break is ideal, have a week of pure confidence and then we go again.

****ing tough game minds Saints away, but would be a great place to get another result.

But Giacc will be back, he'll be a big player against the Saints. He knows who to break fast and make use of space. A win going into this break with strikers scoring is perfect for us like you say, also because it gets some important injured players back..

Always nice & rowdy Stoke, and cold, I can't remember ever not being cold down there (only been 3 times like...).

You can tie Stoke in with Alton Towers an arl, which is a mint scenario.

That's an idea, would mean staying overnight, would depend in coin and I'm guessing time off for Tees.

I'll have a look at it when i've got the match tickets, you get lots of vouchers and **** on ebay all the time so will check there too. Not been to Alton towers since I was 15. It would be like going for the first time.

    Ha, aye.

Worth the wait for a front car on it as well, it's quality but sooo short.

I wanna go to one of the massive American parks like, 6 flags or summat, I've been to a few of their 'small' parks and even they piss all over ours!

The one in LA has the highest, fastest and another record one or at least it did 12 years ago, think it might have the most roller coasters in the world, knackered by the end of the day

Bit Ot but ive said this for ages. How great would it be if there was an alton towers in Sunderland, that land in seaburn ive earmarked when I win my billions lol.

Seriously though it would transform the city into a major tourist attraction and massively boost our economy which could/would improve the city and help Sunderland football club.

If only we had a billionaire invested in Sunderland in some way.......
