I have often wondered why we continue to use these kinds of games for pre-season friendlies and would much prefer higher opposition. However it is probably part of the overall recruitment of new supporters from slightly further afield and I know a lot of City supporters from that area, including myself of course.
Surely the main reason we play these non league teams in friendlies, is because they don't want to be travelling to far around the country, and we are only surrounded by non league teams? We have in the past done tours where the players bond, but also played close by with fringe players.
Isnt this a Bristol City XI playing them? it will just be our reserve players, under 21's and possible new signings.
Pointless opposition. It's bad enough when we play the likes of Forest Green, or Rovers level as we can now call it.... But aside from using it purely as a fitness exercise, I cant see what playing this level of opposition achieves.
Don't we have a better chance of improving by playing higher opposition or am I barking up the wrong tree?
