As a Spurs fan, I just thought that I'd try to get an idea of how Villa fans are reacting to this news.

Are you concerned about him leaving or had he outlived his usefulness?
Is it a worry, with the rumours about others wanting to leave or is it just down to his age?
Who would you like to see replacing him?

I think Friedel has almost been certain to go after he was made bankrupt in the US a few months ago. It was obvious that Villa were only ever going to offer him a one year deal, with reportedly three clubs willing to offer a two year deal he was always going to sign for one of them considering his circumstances.

I was a bit surprised Redknapp was willing to offer a two year deal. But when I think logically it isn't all that surprising he chose Spurs, they're the only ones in Europe so should have a lot more games than the others and if Gomes does leave Brad will no doubt be number one. At 40 years old I would imagine all the contracts he got offered had some sort of appearance fee, so with Spurs playing more often there's the chance to earn more if that's the case.

He was a good player for Villa and will no doubt be missed at times depending on who we get in as a replacement, but it's probably the right time for him to move on.

I think most Villa fans have been expecting him to leave anyway, there's been many discussions about which keeper we will be getting to replace him.

He's got to be on similar if not better wages at Spurs than he was on at Villa and I can't imagine he's going there to warm the bench when he had the chance to extend that incredible consecutive Premier league games by staying at Villa.

He must have been promised first team football by 'Arry which wouldn't surprise me as Gomes has been awful. I can see Cuddicini and Gomes both wanting to leave after this signing.

It makes sense, he is 40 and leaving a club that was fighting relegation, lost their manager and the uncertainty that brings and moving to a club that has more ambition and as friedal doesn't have long left in the game, he has a chance to be number 1 at spurs challenging for champions league places and good chance of success in the cups
