Original thread had Thursday's date but Friday's fixtures. Hope it all makes sense now

I’ve always assumed NH ground and Flat ground are rated differently. Certainly that often comes across when watching the ‘experts’ on the tv. Often they will say the ground is soft on the flat but it’s not ‘jumps soft’. Is this not the case?
Exeter must be a little disappointed with the number of entries on their big day of the racing year. I see Bryony has popped over the channel for a couple of rides, one for Nicholls in the big race and one for her dad. I hope she wins both. 2 singles and a double. Good luck all.

There was some analysis done on ground by the BHA a while ago, it showed that the average going readings for each are different but generally are quite closely related.

The numbers below are the average going stick reading at courses with those official going reading.

Going Flat NH Difference
Heavy 5.7 5.2 0.5
Soft 6.4 6 0.4
Good to Soft 7.1 6.8 0.3
Good 7.9 7.7 0.2
Good to Firm 8.6 8.7 -0.1
Firm 9.9 10 -0.1

I think we have a major issue with knowing the ground in UK racing, when I look at the time data in Proform, it shows major differences between what is stated as the going, and what the going is likely to be!

It would be interesting to understand the spread of stick reading measurements taken - both in terms of the different sections of the track but also across the width of the track. I also wonder how scientific the stick is in this day and age? Surely there must be a more standardised and accurate method to determine the going?

The Turftrax going map for today's card at Exeter just shows everything the same colour and a reading of 7.3 - which feels a bit "generic" and probably exactly how they did it 60 years ago. Interesting to note they use "verti-draining" on certain sections of the course. I assume that makes the ground dry out quicker.

Just popped on the stream to watch the novice chase at Exeter and it's a bloody walkover :headbang:

Nearly 40 grand prize money too. WTF.
