Wealth warning: looking Gift Horse in the Mouth time... Nine face the starter for the Bonhams at 2:25 but it looks easy to eliminate the three outsiders. Native American has been visored after doing little in four starts this term and that is unlikely to result in the 10lb improvement he needs to be competitive here. Atlantic Coast was second in a Listed race last time but has been beaten both times that he has encountered quick ground. Boiling Point steps back up to a mile after being well beaten in the Jersey (Task Force ahead) following a win in a four-runner Listed race over seven. Ralph Beckett runs two but both have a bit to find. King’s Gamble was fifth in the Britannia and this demands quite an improvement to be competitive whilst Task Force is really being judged on last year’s second in the Middle Park rather than seventh in the Guineas and the Jersey. The ability is there but an impeccable pedigree does not win races. There is plenty going for Dancing Gemini just on pure form terms if using just his second in the Poulains but that looks very suspicious now; and he subsequently was an also-ran in the Derby and the Eclipse plus his best efforts have been on easy ground. Last time Socialite lost his unbeaten record in the Henry Cecil Listed race at HQ where he ran freely up front. Favourite that day was Lead Artist, who had every chance but was unable to handle the first two in the final furlong. The winner that day was AL MUSMAK, runner-up in the Royal Lodge as a juvenile, who looks well up to the step up to Group 3 company here with no reason to believe that the other two can reverse placings on a different type of course.
Yet again, the jockeys on the horses held up allowed the leader to slip the field at Goodwood. Fair play to Keiran Shoemark – he made every post a winning one. I read that Mick Appleby has had three winners from five runners at Goodwood, so that augur well for Big Evs in the Qatar Stakes. Last year he won the Windsor Castle and followed up in the Molecomb, so he has course and distance form. However, this year he was beaten at Royal Ascot, having every chance and four of the first five in that race (including him) line up today. Big Evs is being hammered in the betting but whilst I can see why he might confirm running with Believing and Kerdos (both behind on his side of the track) just why should he reverse running with Asfoora? Is that simply because of draw bias? Other than the first two, the next eight raced far side. At the prices I would rather stick with the foreign raider.
Wish I had seen this last week And that reminds me. I went to the doctor this morning. He said "What's the problem?" I said " I keep having glimpses of the future". He said "That's interesting, when did this start?" I said "Next Friday"
